17th month 1st day of Seventeen

Ligh

On the days leading up to Halloween there was a nervous panic surrounding the cities and I finally convinced Cordlen and the others that the wall was necessary. We began to build it as fast as we safely could, using stone from the mines to build the walls. Stronger materials like Iron would merely be stolen though.

The wall reached only about twenty fifty high, but it is built above any path, the only way up is by Suwingu. There is one gate in the wall, made of stone that we could bar quickly. When we first made it Watch people remarked that closed it looked like the entire rest of the wall, and the wall looked like another part of the canyon.

Speaking of the canyon no one is sure if the canyon has water, a city, or even a bottom. We once threw a boulder in there from over sixty feet down and we heard nothing.

Around Halloween itself we began to decorate in bright colours and holy symbols. Why? To ward away the evil spirits or something. I do not know, I'm an atheist anyway. However, Gabriel preaches every Sunday on 'faith and sin and divine wrath' or something. Gabriel is a student of religion and Law.

Yes, you heard that right, he went to police school and studied religion in his spare time. What religion? Every religion. On Sunday he assigns the guardians to his second. A boy called Peter, who is skilled in keeping crime in the Gilded district* then goes to the Grand palace, remember that the throne room is now a church, and preaches for hours on the major religions, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. People can also request topics and religions that he could preach about.

Anyway, on the months leading to Halloween the official colours were orange, purple and white. Carved pumpkins and various religious symbols showed up everywhere to attempt to ward off evil, but it was all for nothing.

On Halloween the day was normal, with trick or treating and celebrations everywhere but in the meeting that we held that afternoon Alizee noted a rising trend in the weapons and armour sold and Falon reported defenceless people retreating to the inner ring wall.

At one in the morning of the day after Halloween we awoke to the chilling sound of deep, resonating horns. "Go, go!" Aspira said to me as she leaped out the window with a Suwingu in hand. Most windows are now easy to open and large enough for a person on second floors.

I threw on my clothes and followed her to awake everyone int the city. We were in Minestone but one of Niki's runners, wearing the circlet transportation, ran to the Knoll to warn them. The gate was not exactly at Minestone and the city had its own wall and problems. Anyway, we cut ropes to release boulders on climbing undead, but we hadn't considered that they would be using our own Suwingu against us!

They swung up to us and shot while still in the air, few fell but we still fell back to save ourselves. We met them in the air and managed to hold them back for a few minutes before a massive column of them rushed up the precariously caved paths and others began to appear like the lost ones did and attacked the cities.

The gate burst open, and we fell back to the Knoll's wall. Now with the Suwingu the use of walls is nearly pointless, except that walls give you a way to fly upward. A Donin flew past my ear leaving a small cut on it. We were fighting with Suwingu in the air, fighting in the air is usually quite a bit of spinning around because any slash will make you spin with it.

You could stab with the Suwingu but it will drag you down so no one does it. "Retreat! To the Fields!" Aspira commanded. We swung onto the road just as the horse riders rushed past, we managed to take down a few in the lead, thus knocking over others and causing chaos. "Fire!" Aspira commanded and a rain of arrows, most of them on fire, arced towards the undead. Quite a few fell as they landed and began to march on the Knoll. We ran as a group to the Fileds and used the Hundred Walls to swing to the Knoll, leaving a few behind on the walls as arrows began to fall from everywhere.
