Badlands, Oregon Battlefields
"Maine in position, enemy turret and troops ahead."
A patrol squad was spotted 3 km northeast of the team by Kiwi.
"Careful, they're wielding World Marshal produced MG-166 coliguns, these things pack a heavy punch, initial bullet speed 2 machs, gotta be on the lookout for their signature buzzing noises, they don't rattle like you're good ol' Militech ARs."
Said Lucy through everyone's PDA, she was still stationed back at the base with David.
"Copy."
Said the whole squad.
"We'll split up," said Sam, "you guys open fire, if they concentrate firepower on me, then you guys take'em out with your firepower, if they concentrate firepower on you, I'll try to get close and deal some damage."
"Double cover situation huh."
Said Maine.
"Exactly, they don't have much more people then us, take care, I'm jumpin in."
"Got it."
Turret and guns began buzzing as a cool Brazilian wind whisked across the badlands.
Coligun nails were chopped in half and deflected, ricocheting away from Sam's body as he closed in on the troop of Free States soldiers.
Maine's squad opened fire, and the some Free State soldiers took cover, lightening the burden for a charging Sam.
There was a light, anti climatic 'whoosh' before a soldier's head left his body, the next instant another soldier was decapitated in the same manner.
The rest of the soldiers began retreating to the turret after seeing Sam's speed, driving their Korenzicovs to the maximum, they took cover behind the turret and fired at Sam.
Together, the soldiers and the turret managed to release a huge stream of bullets that covered an entire direction in front of Sam.
It almost seemed like that they were impossible to block
Sam took a deep breath and as his auto sterilizer began to function.
"Zandatsu, activate."
The world turned blue and everything slowed down, and Sam carved the position of every bullet into his mind.
The red Tachi began to swing, left to right, top to bottom, diagonal and perpendicular.
The slashes weaved themselves into a web, a web that precisely swallowed up every single projectile as Sam advanced.
To Sam, this was a slow process, he moved forwards bit by bit, performing a delicate dance in the process.
But for the soldiers, they could only see a red lightning flashing between a beam of bullets.
The next second the red lightning shot into the air, and landed on top the turret, permanently separating it into two chunks.
The soldiers immediately scattered away in every direction, shooting at Sam from all directions, but it was too late.
Muramasa spun like a red whirlwind, and the next second all the soldiers around Sam were no longer in one piece.
Chunks of metal, flesh and blood rained down from above.
Everything settled into peace and silence.
"All...all done, no more heat signatures spotted."
Kiwi stuttered via the PDA about 10 second after Sam sheathed his blade.
"Amazing, What chrome is he packing," muttered Maine "I'm starting to think that we need a word that tops 'preem' to describe whatever gear he's got."
"Guys, if what I'm getting from my prosthetic cyber eyes is correct, he barely packing anything!"
Said Lucy.
"You're fuckin with me, this man just dunked on a cyber stacked patrol squad and you're telling me he did it by juicing?"
Maine said in disbelief.
"I heard that," piped in Sam, "gym doesn't solve all my problems, you guys should appreciate some good old exoskeletons more, just as trusty and any cyberware plus no risk of cyber psychosis."
"Really? Maybe I'll try some of that."
Concurred Maine.
The squad had now gathered up to the remains of the soldiers.
"These guys aren't simply patrolling, from the signals I'm detecting, I think they might be transferring equipment, whatever it is it's probably close by."
Said Kiwi.
"Let's have a look then shall we?"
Suggested Sam with a joyful grin.
"Okay, but you guys shouldn't split up, stick together, we're more versatile that way."
Said Lucy through the PDAs.
They reached an agreement, and the Squad hopping on to their motorcycles parked nearby, and rode deeper into the simmering Badlands.
The sun was now setting in front of them. Shadows stretched from their backs and clumped together as they walked, talked, and laughed side by side.
Warm wind blew across their faces, sending their joy of victory drifting into the skies as the team began to form a bond with its new member.
'This is something you can't get this in Night City,' thought Sam, 'maybe this is why Maine and his people came here from Night City.
'Maybe this was why I left Night City.'
