Three years later

Tess snuck around the house, looking around for any signs of the intruder before he got the upper hand. She was well skilled when it came to stealth and quick on her feet.

The workshop...

She quickly ran out and made for the shop where the familiar sound of Steve's hammer falling upon metal was filling the air.

He looked up from the bench as she now walked in and then subtly cocked his head to a corner with a small smile, carrying on.

Tess crept over and then pounced. "Gotcha! You can't hide from me young man!" Shrieks filling the air as she grabbed her son and picked him up. "You need to work on those hiding skills if you wanna be as good as your daddy".

Beau giggled as he tried to free himself.

"C'mon, supper time, that means you too". She shot a look to her husband.

"Gimmie a minute Tessie, just need to finish this up".  Steve said, ruffling his son's hair. "Go wash up for your mama".

The little boy nodded and cuddled into his mother as she carried him out.

As Sarah predicted, Beau was growing to be like his father, but had all the confidence of his mother. He could be a daredevil at times, but at his age, what kid wasn't?

Steve knew that their son was safe, keeping his night time business and family life separate, whether Beau wanted to be part of that when he was older was down to him, but the last thing he wanted was for him to be put in danger.

Even as he and Tess sat outside on the porch that evening once Beau was in bed, Steve knew that his priorities had changed as well as some opinions he'd had before marrying his wife. Sure he and Tess had arguments that were sometimes scathing, sure there were times where he felt like he could just shoot her, but he wouldn't.

They were made for one another, and though he may think himself biased, there would never be another love quite like theirs.

"Love of my life". He muttered, missing her hair whilst she snuggled against him, blanket over them to warm them a little more.

Through the darkness that had fallen over Coalstone, he heard the words they always said to one another now leave her lips. Content with the life they'd made, and we're only really just beginning.

"Heart of my soul".
