"YOU WILL FALL--"
"No, Helaena, I will not."
Aemma Velaryon bit her lip in concentration as she reached out to grab onto the higher branch of the tree she was climbing. Pulling herself towards it, she looked down at her feet to make sure she had put them in the right place to pull herself up.
Helaena Targaryen held her hand over her eyes so she could see her friend, the corners of her mouth turned down.
"Aemma--"
"How about you stop whining and tell me where the spider is?" Aemma retorted, narrowed eyes jumping from branch to branch trying to find the small creature she was looking for.
Helaena looked into space and then pointed her finger at a branch not far from Aemma. "There."
Aemma looked in that direction and started to climb again.
The wind picked up and Aemma's white hair began to fly in all directions as if it wanted to fly away from the castle just like its owner. Helaena, who had her hair perfectly styled and therefore they almost did not move, looked around to make sure that no maid could see them.
"We shouldn't be here. If someone finds us . . ."
"Relax, Helaena. As soon as I catch that spider, I will go down, no one will find out," Aemma reassured her.
But the older princess didn't mind her anymore, instead she sat down next to the tree and started drawing in the clay with her finger, muttering something under her breath. Meanwhile, Aemma climbed even higher on the tree and measured the branches inquisitively, smiling contentedly when she saw a black spider with long legs climbing towards her.
The spider crawled towards her and she didn't even move, not even when she felt his little legs on her hand. She raised her hand and watched the spider in fascination as it tried to hold on to her fingers while she gently moved them.
"Hello," she spoke to him and let him pass to her other hand. "What is your name?"
The spider didn't answer her, but she answered him.
"No, I don't think you don't deserve a name just because you are not a dragon. Everyone deserves a name," Aemma said kindly and with a big smile lifted him up while he was still in her palm. "I actually think we could both fly if we wanted to!"
The wind rose again, but this time much stronger than before, and despite the fact that the spider tried very hard to stay in her palm, the force of the wind overcame him and the spider disappeared in the wind. Aemma's eyes widened in panic and she reached out her arms in a naive attempt to catch him.
The only thing she managed to do was lose her balance and hit the ground with a loud thud.
Aemma huffed and sat up slowly, studying her scraped elbows and dirty clothes.
"Told you," Helaena muttered while still having her back turned to her and playing with a grass. "Now I don't have a spider and you have ruined your dress."
The younger princess brushed her hair from her face and looked around. Helaena heard her niece stand up and walk a bit away from her and a moment later she started walking towards her. Her pale hand, which now had several bloody scratches and clay on it, reached out and placed the centipede on her hand.
