IF PRINCESS RHAENYRA thought that the castle was cold, sad and boring, then she was not quite right, despite the fact that she had certain reasons to think so. However, these reasons usually related to people whispering to each other whenever Rhaenyra turned around and also to the lack of freedom she had.
Even so, Rhaenyra had no right to insist that the castle was sad. However, Queen Alicent thought that the castle was sad and she was right.
Her loneliness started already when she married the King and her only friend stopped meeting her and despite the fact that she wanted to think that everything would be fine over time she still lost her. And suddenly it seemed to her that the castle was much colder than ever before and was terribly quiet, and that silence was not lost even when her children were born.
Many maids thought the same as they registered the differences between the part of the castle where the King, Queen and their children lived and the part of the castle where Princess Rhaenyra and her family lived.
While laughter could still be heard in Princess Rhaenyra's chambers, laughter was never heard in the royal family's chambers, and if it was, it was quiet, as etiquette expected. While Rhaenyra and Laenor were seen with smiles on their faces, the King and Queen rarely smiled. And while Jace, Aemma, and Luke spent all their time together playing or just running around the halls, the Queen's children didn't spend time together, each of them being alone and attending to their prescribed duties.
It could therefore be said that the maids were happy when they visited the chambers of the royal family only when it was Princess Helaena's room and Princess Aemma was present, who helped the other princess to relax and sometimes she included the maids in the conversation.
None of them wanted to visit Prince Aegon's chamber, but he spent little time there anyway, so it didn't bother him much and he didn't feel lonely.
But Prince Aemond felt lonely. All the time.
He had no friends to hang out with, no siblings to trust, and no parents who cared enough to help him. King Viserys rarely paid attention to his children, as if after Aegon was born, he lost interest in other children and, thanks to Aegon's personality, didn't even care about him. The only child he cared about was his beloved daughter Rhaenyra and her children who would one day ascend the Iron Throne, and his granddaughter who was a reflection of his dead wife.
Aemond wondered if King Viserys was even aware of his existence. He wondered if he knew that his beloved grandchildren never stopped bullying him and if he knew that Aegon was constantly hitting him when their mother wasn't looking.
Maybe he knew about it and didn't care. That was also a possibility he was considering. Since he had no friends and was always in his room studying, he had, among other things, a lot of time for overthinking.
Despite all his thoughts, Aemond never said anything. He didn't complain. He didn't fight back. He just stood by his brother and his family when he had to and tried not to focus on his loneliness and misery.
So when Aegon came to his room so they could go to the Dragonpit together, he didn't complain even though he already knew that this trip would cause him only more regrets. For a moment he felt a glimmer of hope when Jace, Aemma and Luke didn't show up and they were told that they wouldn't continue without the three siblings. Perhaps today he will be able to escape Aegon's remarks.
Unfortunately, after a few minutes Aemond saw a white haired girl running towards them with two dark haired boys a little behind her.
Aegon rolled his eyes and leaned off the wall. "Finally. Where have you been, giving birth to more children?"
