I was only asleep about two hours when she woke me up, pissing me off.
"I want to get to know you, Pierce. And then you can get to know me, maybe." She smirked, and then continued to ask questions.
"Where are you from?" She asked nonchalantly.
"Ephram, Wisconsin. There's about 300 people there." I said, still half asleep.
"What is your dream when we get to wherever we are going? And where are you going?" She asked in a rapid fire manor.
"I'm going to reunite my band with meeting one member in Chicago. We were going to make it on our own but their parents made them go to college. I am going to reunite with Terrance, the bassist in August, when he gets to college. Until then I am going to play small shows, by my self, and work at like American Apparel or somewhere." I had finished saying my plans. Suddenly I knew it had to work, there was no option of failure.
"Why did you leave, besides making it in music. And don't lie, I see your face." She got straight down to business and clearly she saw right through me and my "tough" exterior. I was found out, now I had to find out dirt on her.
"My abusive, drunkard of a father smashed a plate against my face. He's abused me my whole life and I had been planning this for a while. Yesterday was my high school graduation. I packed up in the middle of the night, you can only take so much shit for so long. My mom left to do drugs and be a hoar when was 11, and ever since then my Dad would come home drunk every night and alotta the time beat the shit out of me. I worked as a housekeeper in a bed and breakfast to save money to leave, and here I am." I was pouring my heart out to Scarlett and I didn't even know her. She just felt safe, and comfortable. Like I could tell her.
"I appreciate your honesty. I could tell looking at you, you were a good guy." I looked out of the window as the sunrise on I-43 rolled by. We were almost there. I could see signs for Chicago.
"I'm here because my parents stuck me in a hospital, for anorexia. They stuck a feeding tube up my nose. They did it the day before my 18th birthday, so they could sign me in. I was there for two months. They made me gain 30 lbs. I know that's not a reason like yours, but it's my reason. Everyone had their demons Pierce, and yours are worse than mine." She finished as she pulled into another rest stop.
"Time to switch, and by the way, I'm staying with you in Chicago if you want. I can help with rent and shit. I've worked retail before, and maybe could sing with you." This was the most forward girl he had ever met. Seriously, what she wanted she just said. She didn't even ask directly, just a little ask at the end. I wasn't used to dealing with women my age or just women, let alone someone like Scarlett.
"I guess that's fine. I mean what can it hurt unless either of us are psycho serial killers, which, for the record, I am not." I laughed as I started driving. We were 20 miles from Chicago. We sat in silence listening to The Format.
"Here we are, Chicago. I say we get something to eat, and go to a baseball game at Wriggly Field. My treat.
"I'll pass on the baseball game. We have to start apartment shopping, and job hunting." I said to Scarlett as I looked around for a hotel.
