And then I saw her
I walked out to get a soda and a snack, before parking my car to sleep in the neon. On the way, I was walking and singing "I Wanna Get Better," By Bleachers. Then I heard a voice yelling.
"Hey you, boy with the brown hair, come here!" It was a beautiful girl about my age. She looked like she was taller than me, without the heeled flip flops even. She was incredibly skinny, incredibly I mean she looked like she had a problem, was my first thought. She kept hollering so I came over there. She had short, pixie cut, well styled hair, and was striking. High cheekbones, robins egg blue eyes, and slightly pouty lips.
"You sing like a fucking angel." She lit a cigarette, and looked over at me. She was wearing a cropped off Fall Out Boy t-shirt, and a pair of tight waisted shorts, I was starting to think she may be a hooker.
"Thank You, but what did you want with me? My name is Pierce, by the way." I was very confused, my mind racing thinking I was about to be busted with soliciting prostitution.
"Scarlett. I just thought you were cute and that you sang well. I sing too." She was sweet, and really cute. But I wasn't here to make friends, I was here to sleep. The next I know she is singing "The Kids aren't Alright" by Fall Out Boy, and it was beautiful.
"I have a proposition for you Pierce." Here it comes, here comes the prostitution. "I'll give 500 dollars to drive me somewhere, in cash, I have it now. My friends dropped me off and turned around. They said they could only get to here. I want to make it big in music in New York City." She was from somewhere upstate too, but somewhere bigger.
"My band and I were going to do that, then their parents made them go to college. I was stuck in a god forsaken town with 300 people and a drunk abusive father, and now I'm gone. I'm long gone. But that's me." I said shrugging my should and getting a sprite from the machine as the sun rose over the trees.
"Deal. Get your shit, we'll leave after I sleep. I've been up all night." I stared at her smoking and was instantly turned on. The way her lips wrapped on the cigarette made me wish that cigarette was me.
"Nice car," She laughed as she crammed her stuff into it.
"Yeah '97 Neon. Piece of shit, it works though. You can drive while I sleep though, you are 18 right?" I asked making sure she wasn't a minor.
"Yep, I am. I'll drive." She had a beautiful, throaty voice, and was stunning. Why she wanted me was a mystery. But 500 dollars in cash and a hot girl companion, this was turning out like a movie, not like a miserable abused kid running away. The gold can't last, and I knew this.
I sat down in the gray cloth passenger sheet as she connected her iPod to the tape adapter. She put on Dashboard Confessional. "Good Taste." I said as I fell asleep.
