I had texted Beckett about half hour after he left and let him know that our families went for lunch together. Well...his mom, Derek, Preston, and my family. We went back to my moms house after because Beckett's mom is still trying to find herself a place and it was closer. I told Beckett to meet us there or if he wanted I could go meet him somewhere.

He never texted me back, but after an hour and a half he came back. I hear the front door open and despite previously having been sitting with the Xbox controller in my hand I spring up immediately going to the entryway.

As soon as I see that it's him I feel relief wash over me and try to play it cool.

"Hey"

He's looking down as he takes his shoes off before looking up at me.

"I'm okay"

I wince I didn't want him to think I was sitting here worrying about him. I trust him I wanted to give him space. He needed it.

"I didn't ask"

He shakes his head and puts a hand on my shoulder tugging me closer to him.

"You didn't have to"

He kisses me after that and I sigh. I've missed him. It's hard to explain how much you miss someone when they're not physically gone, he was here, but he wasn't. We've seen each other, but we haven't. Beckett was checked out and I so desperately wanted him to check back in. I can tell in this moment he has, he's cleared his head.

I pull him into me and hug him whispering "I love you" in his ear.

"I love you to Jasper, can we talk?"

I hate the way my stomach flips when he says those words. I know they're not always inherently bad, but I can't help but worry. Beckett notices the expression on my face and squeezes my side.

"We're good, we're more then good. I just feel like I need to catch you up. I've been doing a lot of my own thinking with everything going on, I feel sort of...disconnected"

I knew what he meant. He needed to process his feelings alone, so did I. We're both ready now to talk. Of course as per usual Preston is too.

"Jasper! What the fuck dude suck faces with Beckett later I'm carrying the fucking team bro!"

Beckett's cheeks tint pink and I groan resting my forehead against his.

"We'll talk, give me five minutes duty calls"

He laughs following me into the living room. Preston looks over his shoulder briefly and turns back around facing the tv quickly.

"Thank fuck I'm not about to get beat by Derek and Maggie"

Maggie responds by trying to push Preston over with her foot, but he just slaps it away.

"Stop! That's cheating"

I get back in the game for a few minutes and just as Preston and and I are securing our victory Beckett gasps. I turn around and find him staring at his mom, he stands quickly.

"C can we talk?"

His mom nods slowly and I turn back to Beckett looking for an answer as to what's going on, but he doesn't look my way. Instead he walks out of the room with her and leaves me to wonder.

"Um that was awkward"

I shove Preston's arm "stop it's fine"

Maggie shrugs "maybe they're talking about his dad"

Derek shrugs "maybe or legal fees"

Preston of course needs to chime in with his own ideas.

"Maybe she's giving her opinion on you guys"
