"Shit."

The words escaped your mouth long before your eyes had registered what was in front of you. You tried your best not to shake but your nerves had other ideas. That's what happens when there's a demo-dog growling at you, sharp claws digging into the dirt as it stares, faceless.

With one swift motion, its claws wrapped around your neck and threw you to the ground. The bat tumbled out of your hand as your head hit the hard floorboards. Its grip on you was tight, restricting your screams to mere whimpers.

You didn't want to die. Faceless. You weren't ready to die. Faceless.

The same memory replayed in your mind over and over and over until you felt like throwing up. You couldn't tear your eyes away from the creature, no matter how hard you tried.

"No." Max's voice breaks, a whisper loud enough for you to hear in the deafening silence. One wrong move and it was over for you.

You should have ran. You should have avoided the dust.

As you stare back at the demo-dog, you feel a strange sensation in your body; something creeping up through your veins to your mind as you sit there, paralysed.

You squint your eyes. You swore you could almost hear what it was thinking.

With a tilt of your head, it pounces.

You squeeze your eyes shut, ready for the claws to sink into your skin at any moment.

But it jumps over you, facing the others and leaving you sat there with shaky breaths. What just happened?

"Dart." Dustin says, slowly moving forward. Everyone immediately protests, but he keeps moving.

You turn your head to see the creature blocking the exit you need to escape the fire before demo-dogs appear.

"Shh. Stop. Trust me, please." He insists and you can't help but feel intrigued at the sight. You knew Dart wouldn't attack him. You couldn't explain it, but you knew. Just like he didn't attack you.

"Hey, it's me. It's me." Dustin soothed Dart like he was a lost puppy. "It's just your friend, it's Dustin."

The boy reaches into his back pocket slowly, revealing his a Nougat bar in his hand. Still uttering calming words to Dart, he starts to place the chocolate on the ground. And, to everyones surprise, the demo-dog becomes distracted.

You feel a rumble in the ground and you look down into the tunnel you came from. A pull in your body made you want to run toward it. But you were stronger than that.

The others were coming.

"Guys, you need to move." You whisper to the others and they turn to you. You couldn't see through their masks but you assumed they would hold expressions that combined confusion and horror.

"Okay, let's go." Steve says quietly, choosing not to question your advice. He helps the others step around Dart and luckily the creature paid no mind to them.

You let out a sigh of relief as the three kids made their way past Dart unharmed and you turn to motivate yourself to stand on shaky legs.

"You hurt?" Steve whispers and you whip your head around. He had helped the kids over and ran back to your side.

"No." You shake your head, gratefully taking his arm to help you straighten up and push away any nerves still showing.

Steve licks his lips, turning back to the scene behind him before meeting your eyes again. "Are you-"
