Being at school the next day felt like torture.

Not because of the classes, or even the part of your brain that was constantly on alert. It was because of the aching hole in your heart.

It was even worse the more you searched for Jonathan. You needed someone right now, someone who understood that kind of heart break. But he was no where to be found.

By lunch, you had given up. Your search had come to an end, cutting you off by the gym and you felt like you would burst into tears at any moment. Your only sanctuary was the girls bathroom situated next to the gym. It would have to do.

You walked in to the mirrored hallway, heading towards the cubicles and doing a quick check to make sure you were alone. As soon as the coast was clear, you gripped the side of a basin tightly, staring at your reflection and letting the tears pour down your cheeks.

"Maybe we... we don't work as well as we thought. We'll just end up hurting eachother more than we already have."

Eddie's words echoing through your mind only made you cry harder. It was a strange feeling you hadn't felt before. When you had broken up with Billy, it didn't feel this painful. Soul-breaking. Like your own heart had been torn to pieces. And you didn't understand why.

There were a few loud shouts in the hallway, snapping you into focus. You needed to get out of here.

You grabbed a few sheets of toilet paper, hurriedly wiping your eyes and fixing yourself to look somewhat presentable. You just needed to make sure it wouldn't attract any attention from wandering eyes. Usually you could walk past students without them realising you existed.

After dumping the tear stained tissues, you swung open the door, turning left and marching down the hallway only to be stopped dead in your tracks.

"Shit." You mutter as you barely avoid colliding with a taller student. It wasn't until you looked up that you saw Steve standing in front of you a little sweatier than usual.

"Woah, Mayfield." He chuckled lightly, his face dropping when he saw your red eyes.

"I thought you weren't calling me that." You weaved past him, walking away. You stopped as soon as you felt a soft tug on your arm. You didn't have the energy to fight against it.

"What happened?" It came out as more of a demand when Steve stared down at you with a worried look in his eyes.

"Nothing." Even you weren't convinced with your lie.

"Nice try." He sighed, looking down at himself. He was still very sweaty from his basketball session. "Uh... I need to shower."

"I would strongly suggest it." You wrinkle your nose, Steve rolling his eyes with the hint of a smile.

"Wait for me outside, okay?" The look in his eyes made you realise he wasn't taking no for an answer.

"Okay." You shrug as you walked with him and sat on the bench outside the boys locker room.

"Don't forget to wash behind your ears." You called out as he walked away, hearing a brief laugh fall from his lips.

You sit for a little while, fiddling with the hem of your shirt, shuffling your feet every now and then. You were never good at sitting in silence. So, instead, you rummaged through your bag for your Walkman.

Shit. Realisation hits when your hand comes back empty. You had left it at Eddie's trailer.

You brought your head to your hands, bringing your mind to focus on positive things. To your surprise, you found yourself thinking of the party. You hoped that they weren't already getting themselves into more trouble than they could handle; Will and The Shadow were enough to handle. You didn't know it yet, but they were your family. Maybe not by blood, but by choice. You'd do anything for them.
