The battle dragged on into a better part of a day, with Tavish and his army still holding on to the keep.

"Ye should count yer blessings," Angus shouted as he was retreating. "'Cause they will be ripped straight away from yeh!"

"Ye'll have pry 'em from me cold, dead body!" Tavish shouted back.

When the last of Angus's men had fleed, the defending men went back to Degroot Keep.

The serfs bowed to the knights and nobles as they marched by. While others looked straight ahead, Tavish smiled and nodded at them, knowing that they played an important part in taking care of the land. Back when his father, Malcolm Degroot, was still alive Tavish would accompany him as he visited the peasantry. When Angus was asked if he would want to come along, he simply scoffed.

"And that bastard wonders why he wasn't given the manor." Tavish thought to himself.

Later that night during supper, the head cook pulled Tavish aside.

"M'lord, I apologize for distracting you." She said softly.

"No need ta fret lass." He replied. "Tell me what's going on?"

She pulled out a loaf of bread that at first looked normal but upon closer inspection had a very tiny chunk missing.

"Do you think that a mouse did it?" The maid asked.

"It's too small for a mouse to take it." Tavish said. "It sounds crazy, but I believe that a fairy did it."

"A fairy?"

"Aye, leave some sweet buns as to not anger them and I'll see if I can get to the bottom of this."
