Lacey's POV
"What was that?" Brett asked as I buckled up.
I looked at her confused. "What was what?"
She started the Ambo. "You and Severide."
"That I'm glad he's okay?"
She shook her head. "You told him he was an idiot and he called you Lace. A nickname. Not even your last name."
I shrugged. "We know each other."
She then looked at me while driving and realization came across her face. "You've had sex with Severide!"
I bit my lip. "This was before he was my coworker."
Brett laughed. "Oh my God. I can't believe it. Is it still going on?"
I shrugged. "I honestly don't know where we stand. The last time was last night, and he didn't know I was the new paramedic. He found out this morning."
"Way to drop a bomb!" Brett giggled.
I laughed too. "I just needed someone to get me over my dead, cheating husband."
Brett went quiet. "He cheated on you?"
I nodded. "The day he died, he told me he wanted a divorce and was leaving me for another woman."
"Wow, Lacey," She said sincerely. "I'm so sorry."
"Thanks." I smiled at her. "But I'm over him. Completely. Thanks to the help from Lieutenant Severide." I winked at her.
She chuckled and put the Ambulance into park. We were now back in the firehouse.
I hopped out of the Ambulance.
"Lacey." I heard Kelly call. "Can I talk to you in my office in five minutes?"
"Sure." I told him polietly then walked past him into the locker room. I put my jacket in the locker.
"Lace." Kelly was on the other side of my locker. I shut it and he came into view. "Can I talk to you in my office?"
I nodded and walked with him to his office that was a short distance.
"What do you need, Lieutenant?" I asked sweetly.
He sighed. "The guys on Squad know."
I eyed him. "Know what?"
He avoided eye contact. "That we've hooked up."
I shrugged. "Brett knows too. Only a matter of time before Truck finds out about it."
Kelly looked at me with large, sorry eyes. "I didn't want this to happen. I'm sorry, Lacey." He apologized.
I leaned in closer to him. "It's okay, Kelly. I wouldn't trade what happened between us for anything. I told you, I don't regret it."
He shivered from my close proximity. "You should've told me." He muttered in a husky voice.
I touched his forearm softly. "You wouldn't have done anything with me."
He shook his head. "I don't know what I would've done. It just would've been nice to know ahead of time."
I pressed my chest to his. "I was going to tell you, but then the whole thing with Mills went down."
He sighed and gently pushed me away. "I think we just need to be friends right now."
I nodded, a little heart broken, but I understood his view. "I just want to thank you."
