The next morning, I knew I had to say something to him about the night before and what I saw. I did not know what he was going to say, but I knew I saw someone in his room. I was still upset and angry. It was not fair to me and it definitely was not fair to Molly. He took me out and let me think it could be something.  I mean, he led me on. Molly knew about us going out and she got all excited and hopeful. Now, he had someone else in his room. What happened? What was going on? I knew the only way I would find out was by asking him. When I went inside his house, Molly was nowhere in sight. I knew it was my chance.

"Well, this is your last day watching Molly."

"Yes, it is."

"I'll see you tonight."

"John, wait."

"Summer, I really need to be leaving. What would it look like if the boss was late to work?"

"John, please. This is important. I need to ask you about something."

"We can talk when I get home. I need to go." John left and I was still standing in the kitchen, more worried about the whole situation than I already was.

"Summer? What was that about?" I turned to look at Molly.

"What was what about?"

"You said you needed to ask my father about something. What was it about?"

"Oh, nothing. It isn't anything you should be concerned about. Don't worry."

"Summer, I know something is wrong. I can tell."

"Everything is really okay, Molly." I wasn't sure if Molly believed me or not, but I needed her to stop asking me about it I did not want her knowing anything had happened. It wasn't her problem to deal with. Molly ate breakfast and went upstairs for the rest of the day. She had me make her a sandwich for lunch and told me she wasn't hungry for dinner. She did not talk much to me the whole day. I was a little hurt that she was upset with me, but I just couldn't say anything to her about the night before. When John came home, he put his briefcase on the table in the kitchen.

"Thank you for your help this week." I nodded.

"It was nothing. I enjoyed watching Molly." I paused for a moment, trying to gather my thoughts. "We need to have that talk now."

"Is this about last night?"

"Yes. I know I saw someone in your room."

"Summer, I want you to leave."

"What?"

"I know Molly likes you and had enjoyed spending time with you this week, but I don't want her to get attached to you. I don't want you to be a part of her life, so you need to leave."

"This doesn't make sense."

"You have babysit my daughter for a week and that is greatly appreciated, but that is the extent of it." Was he really saying this to me? After everything I had done this week and going out with him, is he really saying this?

"We went out."

"Yeah, once." Was it not a nice time or something because he is treating it like it meant nothing? Did he just use me?

"And that didn't mean anything to you? You kissed me."

"People kiss each other when they go out, Summer. It's no big deal. Respect my wishes regarding my daughter, okay?" I was furious. My face was turning red. I was about to go off. I didn't care if he was my boss or not. Noone should talk to someone the way he is talking to me right now. No man should every treat a woman this way. If he wasn't interested, this was not the way to go about it.

"You know what? I thought maybe you weren't as bad as everyone at work thinks you are, but you really are a horrible person. You only care about work."

"I'm done. You need to leave."

"I will leave, but I will not be at work on Monday, so you will need to find someone else to be your assistant."

"Father, what have you done?" We both turned to see Molly, tears rolling down her face.

"Molly, go to your room."

"No!" At this point, I was crying, too. I wiped the tears off my face. I was hurt by John, but seeing Molly hurt made it all that much worse. She was the last person that deserves to be hurt. We had bonded over the last week and this was heartbreaking to watch.

"Molly, it's okay." She looked at John.

"You ruin everything!" She ran upstairs.

"I'm leaving." I wiped the rest of my tears. I deserved better. I could find another job and eventually, I would find someone who wanted to be with me and treated me like I deserved. I did nothing wrong. He did. He led me on. He hurt his daughter by getting her hopes up. He brought someone else home after going out with me. This was on him, not me. It was time to close this chapter of my life and move on.
