Wilbur awoke with someone in his arms, and his wings keeping him warm. He opened his eyes slowly and let them adjust to the darkness of the room.
He saw how it was Dream in his arms, the blond was hugging his stomach with his head on Wilbur's chest. Wilbur had his arms wrapped around Dream's waist, his wings were also wrapped around them protectively.
Wilbur saddened at that, he was in love with what he was sworn to protect the city from. It felt fake, perhaps he'd wake up soon and Dream would be in arms again; safe from the dangers of the world and totally not a villain.
Wilbur noticed a dark grandfather clock in the corner of his room, 9:23, it read. That was the good thing about being a villain's boyfriend, he supposed, he didn't have to show up for work.
Wilbur then realized something, shouldn't back-up already have come in? Shouldn't they be out of the Temple by now? What happened?
Wilbur would ask Dream when he woke up, he liked pretending Dream wasn't a villain and they were still normal. It kept him grounded, Wilbur pulled Dream closer and held him tighter.
They stayed like that for who knows how long. Dream woke up after a long while though. He first started shifting his limbs around, and then he started sleepily murmuring cute nonsense words that made Wilbur's heart hurt, and then his eyes opened blearily and peered at Wilbur before grinning and plopping his head onto the hero's shoulder, he felt Dream's head hit the power suppressor, but it didn't hurt.
"Good morning, darling." He mumbled quietly, Wilbur smiled bittersweetly and blinked before answering, "Good morning, love." He said, ignoring the hurt in his heart.
He felt Dream grin happily, he felt his own smile falter as he pulled Dream impossibly closer. "Any plans for the day?" Wilbur asked, careful to not disrupt the softness of the room.
Don't ask him how, but he felt Dream think before the blond spoke. "Well," the villain began slowly, "I was thinking you could go visit your family? I don't know, I figured you'd want to." Dream suggested hesitantly, Wilbur froze before his eyes teared up.
Wilbur squeezed Dream so tightly that Dream wheezed and Wilbur couldn't breathe, he eventually stopped and softly kissed Dream's temple. "Thank you, I didn't think you'd let me see them." He breathed, Dream made a noise of confusion.
"Wilbur, I told you that I'd give you the world." Dream spoke and separated them enough that he could see Wilbur's eyes, the blond placed a gentle hand on Wilbur's non-scarred cheek. "I would never keep you away from your family, if you want to see them, just tell me." Dream spoke softly, Wilbur's eyes teared up.
"I know, I know." Wilbur whispered, "I'm just worried about them." He said honestly, Dream made a sad noise and gently rubbed his thumb into Wilbur's cheek.
"That's alright, darling, you're allowed to be worried. I just want you to be happy." Dream reasoned softly, Wilbur nearly cried. He was betraying Dream.
Dream, with his soft hands and ability to calm, comfort, and cheer up Wilbur. Dream, with the beautiful voice and even prettier eyes. Dream Dream Dream. It was all Dream, His heart ached, he was betraying his first boyfriend, his last boyfriend.
Wilbur would never fall for anyone as deeply as he did for Dream. He knew it from his heart, brain, and hands. No one could ever compare to Dream, no one.
Gods, he loved Dream. He loved Dream too much, far too much. It hurt to think that they'd be separated, it hurt to even feel the ghost of the idea.
"It's okay, Birdie, I know you're feeling overwhelmed and confused, it's going to be fine." Dream comforted as he wiped tears away, it was then Wilbur realized that he was crying.
