----After thirteen years----

"Everard, move!" Ranulf yelled. I sprinted to the nearest column as I hid from a fire spell.

"Where's Aquilina?" I yelled back, "This is the best time, anytime now, Aquilina!" As I said it, a water dragon appeared out of nowhere hitting the Warlock, drowning him inside the water dragon's body. I took the chance, I ran out of the column to charge, my sword, Clovis glinted in the light as I fought the demons. Their black blood hissing as my sword slashed then. Ranulf appeared on my right. His fangs bared as he fought using his elongated claws. Thankfully he isn't fan on killing them by bite. I heard they taste disgusting as the sewers water.

Other Warriors like me came out too fight alongside me. The Warlock finally broke out of his water prison. Aquilina looks exhausted, that water dragon took a lot of energy. But she didn't showed it, in fact she started chanting another spell.

I stared ahead focusing on killing this vermins.

"Fall back! They're retreating!" A horn blared. I ran back taking the wounded with me.

"You okay there?" I ask as I passed Aquilina.

"Yes."

"Stop it, you're too weak to walk." Ranulf said beside me.

"I'm not weak!" Aquilina said, her breath panting.

"Everard, you're father want to speak with you." Our Second in command, Ivar called. Ranulf patted my shoulder for support. "You too Ranulf, Aquilina." We all stared at each other.

Aquilina marched first despite her legs shaking. Ranulf kept her pace behind her in case she fell and me beside him as we followed Ivar.

"What was it, Ivar?"

"Who knows ask your father." He said as we reached the bank, the office they currently used as war room.

Ivar motioned us to get inside. My father, Cadmus was the current Warrior representative. The former one died a year ago on the Purge.

"Father." I called. He looked my way. He was surrounded by the other Council members as well, or whatever left that is.

"Son," he cleared his throat, in the presence of the council there is a rule that everyone is to be treated fairly including your family. Everyone in the room must be acknowledge as subject. "I mean Everard, I have a mission for you."

Finally.

"The three of you." Councilor Gregoria of the shifters representative corrected.

"Aren't they too young?" Councilor Fierce of the Healers says.

"Hey, I'm sixty five years old!" Ranulf scowled. He was bitten when he was nineteen so he will be forever nineteen. But Ranulf was special. He can walk on daylight because he was bitten by the most ancient vampire that ever existed and passing him his ancient blood magic.

"What mission will you give us?" I ask.

"Finding the last Librarian."

I heard Aquilina gasped.

"Didn't you sent a team six months ago?"

"Yes, Everard, we did and now they disappeared, I believe they're gone. So we're sending another one. You folks." Councilor Lady Carla said. She was one of the former council who survived and also Aquilina's mother.

"We will show you their last coordinates and the last information we had of the Last Librarian. You will continue their search." She continued.

"Why us?" I ask.

"We need every manpower in here to protect this border, Everard, and you three are among the best. No one has the best teamwork but the three of you to protect the Last Librarian."

"We plan to send one healer with you, but as you can see, we need every healer. So if anything happened with you. The only help we could give is the help of the local friends and connections base on your location."

"What if this ruse about the last Librarian is gone."

"Our Oracle said that one is still alive." My father argued. "If she said, one still exist, then one is. And we need to find the last one, that's our only hope to win this war."

Warlock Thamos, the one we thought is just a children's myth, the man who parents warned us about were true and now reincarnated, focus on revenge, but this time around not to rule the world but to eradicate us. No one wants to speak his name, it was a bad omen.

"You have three days to prepare. Dismiss." Councilor Augur of the Vampire said.

When we left the war room we came straight for Aquilina's room. Both of us knew she was beyond exhausted close to passing out, but her stubborn nature refuse to show it infront of anyone.

She immediately sat on her bed. "What do we do now? The situation must be so difficult if my mother is willing to send me out of her sight."

"Same with us. If Ranulf died the line of the only daywalker will end."

"Dude! I'm that special!"

"Anyway, we should create a plan." Aquilina suggested.

"Later. Let's meet tomorrow morning. We need rest."

The moment I said it Aquilina's eyes rolled and pass out on the bed.

We left her, Ranulf left me to get some snacks, means he'll find some willing person who will donate him some blood. I just hope he washed up first, he's going to spook them.

I go straight to my room to wash too and changed. The three of us has been friends and been together since the Great Purge. I also acted as the group's leader. Ranulf doesn't mind with the role, he prefers to flirt. Aquilina too, it took time to chant some powerful spells and when she needed time, I will give her a damn time.

We're out of the patrol duty for the preparation days. A team will come with us until we arrive to the last coordinates, they will give us a bag of foods and clothes then leave. Somehow I was shocked when we found my father is together with that team.

"Dad, what are you doing?"

"I need to see you to your destination. I tried to stop them, son, I'm sorry." I stopped him before he gets emotional.

"Dad, I'm a warrior like you. Mom will be proud. Trust me, I can do this."

"I promise your mother to keep you alive."

"No one's going to live longer if we don't find the Librarian."

Even were guarding the border it doesn't mean no warlocks and demons slipped in towards the capital and cities. But those party were killed on sight if possible. But again we don't have enough manpower, some race tried to live their life as normally as possible away from the fighting, earning money for food for their children and elderly.

We drove together, according to the map it's seventy miles away from the border close to the ruined City of Pemburg. And according to their last research there were supposed to meet up an informant on the city named Pedro.

When we arrived at the dead of the night my father gave me one last pat on the shoulder and a nod. My friends kept themselves inside the vehicle.

"Remember stay out of sight as possible. Demon spies roam the city, we don't know whose listening and watching."

I nodded.

"Keep them alive too. I don't know what Carla will do if her daughter died. She will certainly blame me."

"I know dad. We're good. Go."

They left. Once were inside the city, even ruined, was bustling of nighttime activities. Lights can be seen from here and there. The were different races walking around in groups. The last time I've been here was few years back when everything is still normal. All we need to do is find this person Pedro, find the Librarian and leave. With the three of us, we could do this.
