Everard
I ran like a lightning the moment I heard her scream.
She was on the floor her hands on her mouth, I followed where she's looking, someone was swaying by the ceiling. I quickly wrapped my arms around her, she buried her head in my chest and craddled her.
Aquilina appeared followed by Elspeth. I don't really like her, she loves fighting and killing, I never saw anyone enjoyed it but her.
"It looks like she's been dead for days." Aquilina murmured an incantation. The fire started to burn the corpse feet turning it to ashes until it reaches her head. Once she's completely gone something dropped on the floor.
Aquilina picked it up. "It's a key."
"It's gone." I murmured to her head.
"I'm okay, I was just startled."
Elspeth was looking at me funny.
"You can let me go now."
I cleared my throat. "Why does everytime I let you out of my sight something happens."
"Excuse me, I'm not enjoying seeing this either."
"You're not getting out of my sight again. Aquilina will be with you even bathroom breaks."
Aquilina raise her eyebrow at me. She could raise all her eyebrows at me but she always follows my order.
"What happened?" The tension was broken when Ranulf suddenly appeared.
"I was just in the neighborhood drinking when I heard a scream."
"Someone committed a suicide." Aquilina came forward to wipe the remaining blood on his cheeks.
"Oh, yeah, sorry, I forgot I came running."
"Edilia believe there's a secret room in this house." I said.
"Secret room? Cool. I'll check the other room."
"Oh, Ranulf I'm coming with you." Elspeth followed him.
"I better search downstairs." Aquilina left.
After assuring me she's fine, Edilia turned and started knocking on the floor.
I joined her feeling the walls. Nighttime came, we all stopped to take a break for the evening.
"Aquilina, any news at the border?"
"None, my mother won't answer me."
"Do you think everyone's okay?" Edilia asked beside her.
"Yes, I'll feel when something happens to her. I can't contact her but she's alive and that's enough."
"My mom won't answer too, strange." Elspeth said. "She usually wants an update."
"Is that the reason you came with us, to spy?"
"I'm my mother's spy, not the council's."
"What does your mother want to know?"
She shrugged. "Who knows, I wanna stay at the border, this is boring, I wanna kill someone." We all stared at her. "Nah, I'm okay, my Ranulf is here."
Sigh. "We should ask the help of a Clairvoyant. Elspeth, any clairvoyant around here?"
"I thought you'll never ask. Unfortunately she's gone."
"What do you mean she's gone?" Aquilina asked.
"You just burned her to ashes."
Edilia gasped. "That's the clairvoyant?"
