I had never tried to meditate before. I had heard about Monks doing it and even some wolf shifters trying to meditate to their moon god. But it wasn't for me. I was sitting in the middle of the cow yard, surrounded by cows, trying to reach my inner bear. was sitting in the middle of the field talking to myself loudly. Trying to get my bear to do something. It had been nearly two months since my bear had even moved and I was getting annoyed at him. I had slapped myself, tried to chase deer as a human, fought with another shifter, and even thought about Elisa to get a rise out of him but nothing. I didn't understand what was going on, like what was he doing. Was I not a bear anymore? I tried to pull him to the surface, but he didn't budge, and I just gave up.
"Hunter!" I heard Logan's voice call out. I saw him running over to me, which made me stand. Logan generally didn't run towards me; he didn't call out my name or even look at me with that look of concern. I realised he was in a pair of old jeans and no shirt... I thought this would get a rise out of my bear. Nothing.
"What wrong?" I asked. Logan stopped in front of me, panting like he had run a great distance. Where did he run from, it obviously wasn't the cabins.
"I need to talk to you about Elisa," he said, I stepped away I didn't want to talk about her. I shook my head and was about to say when he continued "She has been attacked by Samara" For the first time in weeks, my bear lunged for the surface. I was so ill-prepared for his reaction that I lost control and phased. Logan jumped back "Elisa is at the hospital," he said, but when he looked at my bear, he knew it wasn't her we were after. I heard a loud roar in distance, I saw two bears running toward me from the direction of the cabins. I guess we were all going then.
They followed me as we ran towards the old cave. How did I let her go? Why did I let her reject me? was this way Logan had asked me to see Samara those weeks ago? I should have listened to him. I had brought these attacks on my mate for being a terrible protector. I should have realised that Samara was still fixated. How could I have been so blind and stupid? We ran for a long time to the edge of silver thread valley. Deep in the side of Croak Mountain was a cave. I knew this mountain, I had come here many times as a teenager, running through the forest with Samara. As got close to the place I smelt something else, it wasn't just the Panthers and Jaguars, it was Lions. A mile or so from the caves I saw Sheriff Mack Jaxton standing there with four other police offers and three lions. I forced my bear in, I knew that he wanted revenge, but I had to control him. I wasn't a cop; I couldn't do anything that would put me in trouble. Even though I was angry I need to think of my mate. I couldn't just kill Samara I had to follow the law; she needs to go away she needed to get in trouble as a person, not as a shifter. The moment he was away I ran to Logan
"Is she ok, what happened? Why didn't she tell me, how many times? what are her injuries? How long had this been going on?" I asked him. He put his hand up and spoke
"It been going on about a month, she didn't want me to tell you, she has been bitten on the leg and a few deep scratches, she is at the hospital, this was the third attack," Logan said, I growled and crawled at the tree. What have I done? I couldn't believe I had let her get attacked three times. I should have been there; I shouldn't have let her push me away.
"I know you're angry but control yourself," Sergeant Reg said walking over to me with his hands in front. I growled at him but stopped pushing my bear down. For the first time in weeks, he was pacing again. It actually felt good, I missed his pacing.
"You, Todd, and Rory have to stay here while we go in and get her" Mack said
"Why?" I growled. Even though I knew why my bear didn't. He wanted to fight, attack and rage at the animal that hurt our mate.
"You're not cops, we need to do this by the book" Sergeant Reg said. Reg was a good cop; he had been a long-time friend of Logan and also a shifter.
"That isn't a good idea" This wasn't from me but Logan "We might have more of a chance of avoiding a fight if Hunter went in to bring Samara out. We don't have to attack the others; we just need Samara" Logan said
