I massaged the sore muscles in my arm as I read the back of the treatment bottle. I knew that the only way to remove scars was through surgery, which I didn't have the money for. The local chemist had a good range of skincare products. Some would help with acne scars, so they might help with mating scars. It had been two weeks since I had rejected Hunter. Sia was able to go back to work for light duties, but I was still helping her with everything. We drove to work together, drove home together, went to the shops together, and drove her to see Grace. I never let her out of my sight. I was afraid, even though Dr Harrison said that Samara wouldn't attack Sia again, I wasn't sure. Maybe I did it for my own protection, thinking that if I was with others Samara wouldn't attack me.
I added a couple of bottles of different scar removers to the basket as I moved to another section. Sia was getting her antibiotic refilled, as one of her wounds wasn't healing well. Grace had asked me multiple times if I had seen Hunter, which I was honest about. I had not seen him since I rejected him. Why would he come looking for me when he hated me now? I hated myself. She told me that no one had seen him, that his brothers were worried about him. All I told her was that it wasn't my business, I was not part of that family anymore. We ended up fighting and I told her to leave to get out of the house. Sia just stood there confused, asking me why I said that, of course, were part of their family. If Grace was, we were. I didn't answer her, I didn't have to explain myself to anyone. I paid for all my items in the cart not hearing the clerks' questions about the products that I brought.
"What?" I asked.
"Did you want all of these, or do you want some help choosing the best one?" she asked. I wasn't sure why her question pissed me off.
"If I didn't want them, I wouldn't have put them in the basket, just scan them," I bite at her. I realised then that it wasn't the clerk who asked, it was Sia. She was standing next to me looking at everything that I was buying. The clerk just gave me an odd look, glancing between myself and Sia.
"Okay," she said slowly, turning away from me and leaving the store. I swiped my card and dumped everything into my bag as I followed Sia's would of the store.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to snap," I said catching up with her, Sia stopped and looked at me.
"I know you are upset over rejecting Hunter, but you can't take it out on us" Sia said. I knew she was also talking about Grace. I had been snapping at her for every little thing.
"Why does everything have to come back to Hunter? I can be annoyed for other reasons," I snapped. However, I was right he didn't always have to be the reason.
"What is it then?" Sia asked. I growled, clenching my fist I stamped my foot. Was I not allowed to have any other emotion other than the ones that dealt with Hunter?
"Stop asking, I'm not being snapping," I snapped at her.
"You just snaped at me, it's ok if it's about Hunter. But you don't have..." She started.
"Stop talking about him," I yelled. I didn't want to talk about it anymore, so I walked off.
"I know you don't want to talk about him, but you've changed, you don't come to lunch with us, you don't go the farm..." Sia yelled following me.
"Stop, just stop," I said. She was right, I had stopped doing things that I use to enjoy. It wasn't about Hunter. I just didn't feel the need to go to the farm. Grace could visit us, even if she was heavily pregnant. I didn't have to lunch with Sia all the time. I lived with her, I saw her every day.
"So, you aren't coming to dinner?" Sia asked as we made it home. As it was Sunday night the McKenzie house was having their usual dinner. I had stopped going I didn't want to see Hunter or talk about him. I would spend these nights alone at the house, with everything locked and alone in my room. The last time I saw Samara was at the house, she had come by last Sunday. I didn't have everything locked and I was sitting outside reading. When she walked past. I told her we were together anymore that I had rejected him. Though it didn't seem to change much. She still approached me dragged her claws over my legs. I was just glad the scar was high enough that I could hid it with my clothes. I saw her again during the week at work, but Janine and Henry were there. Tonight, I was going to lock the house down like a fortress. Pretend that no one is home. I stayed silent and awake until Sia got home, it was long past midnight when she did. I heard the noise, and she wasn't alone. She was with Rory, maybe Todd. I can't tell the voice apart. I felt asleep then but woke up early and made sure that Sia was still in her room.
