One year later...Dawn was still hours away when Justice woke up. Hours away in the sense that it was more of the night than the morning.
One o'clock, to be exact.
In the darkness of the bedroom, Justice's normal eye couldn't see anything other than Indigo's form beside her, laying face-down with her head buried in a pillow. Poor Indigo. Yesterday had been the end of 'Hell Week,' as she called it, which meant that she was driven to her limits by the scientists who still wanted to take more tests.
Of course, that also meant that the first thing that she did when she returned was to change and then sleep. Hopefully this would be the last 'Hell Week' ever.
Or at least, 'Hell Week' in that sense.
Today was the first day for a series of San Francisco Command Meetings, which would consist of grumpy people talking about things that bored Justice out of her mind. And the same people who gave Indigo death glares as she was forced to sit through the meetings.
Another thing about the meetings? No hoodies allowed. That meant that Justice's implants were shown in their full glory to everyone and anyone. Sure, the ones on her spine, legs, and arm were still concealed by the uniform, but the ones that snaked down the side of her head were still visible.
It wasn't as bad as what Indigo had to go through, but it was bad enough, especially when the newer people started to ask questions.
That certainly was an awkward exchange. What usually ended up happening was that Justice froze up or said that it was from an impostor.
Justice sighed. What did she have to do to prepare for the meeting? Go over the files for... crew...? No, new blueprints for the Airship. She wondered how all of the world governments had agreed to finally build it, after hours and hours of tedious debate.
She started to reach up to take off her eyepatch when something twined around her wrist and stopped her.
"Go to sleep..." Indigo murmured, her voice muffled. The tentacle that had extended out of her back pulled Justice's arm down and kept it there. "It's not even six yet..."
"You go to sleep," Justice whispered back. "You don't have to worry about me."
"If you won't worry about yourself, then yes, I have to worry about you." Indigo released Justice's wrist and the tentacle gently pushed Justice back down to the bed. Unlike almost every other form of physical contact, Justice didn't flinch away.
"I have to do things, Indie..."
"It's literally one in the morning. The blueprints can wait for tomorrow, today's only going to be an introduction and overview..." Indigo's voice became less muffled as she turned her head towards Justice. "Please?"
Justice turned onto her side and nudged her nose against Indigo's. "Fine, but only because it's you."
"And Epsilon."
"Is he here?"
"No, he just told me a couple days ago to make sure you get as much sleep as possible." Indigo gently rested her tentacle over Justice, turning her head back into the pillow. She was fast asleep thirty seconds later.
Justice watched for a while as Indigo's back rose up and down with each breath. How Indigo managed to breathe was still somewhat of mystery to Justice, but that didn't really matter.
A light rainfall had started to tap at the windows, the sound almost drowning out all of Justice's worries at the back of her head. The rest were handled (somehow) by Indigo just being beside her. How that worked was also a mystery, but that was to be solved at a later time.
