Eddie sat in his room strumming his guitar in a bored manner. He huffed and got up from him bed, making his way to the living room where his uncle, Wayne, sat. Wayne looked over at Eddie and then back to the tv, "What's the matter, son?" He asked. Eddie sighed, "Wayne, have you ever been in love?" He asked. Wayne turned the tv off and turned to Eddie, "I've had my fair share of girlfriends in my day." He tells Eddie as he wipes his shoulders off. Eddie chuckled and shook his head, "No man, I'm not talking about how many girls you've slept with, I'm talking about have you ever been in love?" He asked again.
Wayne nodded, "I was in love once, Beverly Welch. Man, she had the prettiest face I had ever seen. She was the love of my life and I would trade anything to get her back." He admits. Eddie turned his entire attention onto Wayne, "How'd you meet? What happened? Why did you break up?" Eddie asked. Wayne laughed and out his hand up, "Eager much?" He joked as he grabbed his beer and took a sip.
"Sorry, go on." Eddie apologized before he stopped talking and listened to Wayne. "Beverly was a sophomore when I was a junior and she was the light I didn't know I needed. You see, the thing is, Beverly was already seeing this other guy, his name was James. I hated that guy because he had her and I didn't. I couldn't exactly just ask her out because she didn't know me, but I became her friend." He tells Eddie. Eddie nods and waits for him to continue.
"One day, she came to me crying and I asked her, I said, 'Bevy, why are you crying?' and she told me, 'Oh Waynie, he broke up with me because I didn't give him what he wanted.' and I told her, 'Forget him, he's a jerk that never deserved you.' and so she did. We hung out everyday ever since they broke up and I finally had enough of it and I marched down to where she was working at and I told her, 'Bevy, I'm in love with you.' Much to my surprise, she liked me back. So we dated." He says before taking another sip of his beer.
Eddie was now invested, "And then what?" He asked. Wayne chuckled, "She gave herself to me on prom night and I cherished it because I was the first to have Beverly Welch. We dated for a couple of years, even got this trailer together." He continues with his story. Eddie looked around the trailer and smiled, "If it was going so well, why did she leave?" He asked. Wayne sighed and grabbed a cigarette from his pocket and lit it, "She didn't have a choice. You see, son, my Bevy was pregnant and we were excited. When the time came, the baby was born but my little girl wasn't breathing. She passed and so did my Beverly Welch." He says as he took a drag of his cigarette.
Eddie looked down and rubbed Wayne's back, "I never fell in love again because no one was ever going to replace my Bevy." He concluded. Eddie sat there with a frown on his face, causing Wayne to look at him and realize his story didn't help much, "So, uh, yeah if this girl makes you crazy then go for her." He tells Eddie while patting his shoulder twice. Eddie nodded and was thankful he had Wayne to give him terrible relationship advice but it was nice to see Wayne smile as much as he did when he talked about Beverly.
Wayne noticed the glint in Eddie's eyes and narrowed his eyes, "You have a Beverly?" He asked. Eddie nodded and pursed his lips together, "Desiree, you'd love her Wayne, she's so beautiful, chaotic, caring, and sexy as hell." He tells him. Wayne smiles and shakes his head, "She seems like a blast." He laughs while patting Eddie on the back. Eddie nods, "Man, uncle Wayne she's a handful and I love every second of it." Eddie admits.
Wayne stand up from the couch, "I'd love to meet her one day." He gives Eddie a comforting squeeze on the shoulder. Eddie nods and smiled at Wayne, "You will, I promise." Eddie assures as he stands up from the couch and walks to his room. He strums his guitar strings for a few minutes before smiling and getting up from his bed, jogging to the phone and dialed his favorite number to dial.
The line rings for a few seconds before he heard the sound of the phone being answered, "Hello?" She asked.
"What's up?" Eddie asked while twirling the chord of the phone. "Getting ready for a girls night." She tells him. He hummed into the phone, "Mmh, can I watch? Neil and I are always down to see D&D in their natural habitat." He asked. Desiree chuckled, "D&D?" She asked. Eddie closed his eyes and shifted on his feet, "Yeah, D&D, Desiree and Dawn. Like it?" He answered. "I love it." She responded, causing Eddie to smile so widely, it was starting to hurt.
