Eddie walks into the diner and was on a mission to finally tell Desiree that he was tired of the games and wanted her to know that she was the one he wanted just like Wayne did with Beverly. Eddie never wanted Lily because Lily didn't make him feel the same things that Desiree did. It was forced, but with Desiree everything just came naturally to them. Their back and forth banter, flirting, and chemistry was through the roof and he knew neither of them would know how to act on it. That is, until now that he's got his confidence that she feels the same way. He's going to get his girl.
Eddie looks over to see Desiree and Mark having a heated conversation. Desiree stood with her hands on her cheeks as she shook her head, Mark looks like he wasn't trying to hear a word that Desiree was telling him. The quietness of the argument ate at Eddie so he decided to inch close to try to hear some of it before he makes the decision to step in or not.
"I don't get why you're still crying about it, I told you we were through. Just like chill out, split and leave me alone." Mark expressed as he finally looked away and went back to eating his food. Desiree was visibly upset and decided to grab his arm to get him to listen to her, Mark wasn't too fond of the action and pulled his arm away from Desiree as he stood up and shoved her back, "Would you get the fuck away from me already? You're making a goddamn scene and embarrassing the shit out of me, we're done, you're a goddamn slut and I don't want to hear it!" He spoke loudly in her face.
With that, Desiree walks away from him with tears in her eyes as she headed to the restrooms. Eddie scoffs and chases after her into the bathroom. He creeps up behind her, "Des," He calls for her as he places his hand on her shoulder, "Hey, what was all that about?" He asked. Desiree quickly wipes the tears from her face and shakes her head, "Don't worry about it, Alright?" She assured him while keeping her eyes off of his stare. He sighs, "What are you two arguing about this time?" He asked while leaning against the door with his hands in his front pockets.
Desiree takes a deep breath, "He broke up with me, this argument doesn't matter at all." She spoke as she stared at the painting on the wall. "If it doesn't matter, why are you crying then?" He asks while shrugging his shoulders, Desiree scoffs and shakes her head, "I'm fine, Eddie." Desiree spat at him and he closed his eyes while taking a deep breath. Once he opens his eyes back up, he looks at her, "Hey, it's okay, relax. Couples fight, he'll cool off and in a few days you two will be back to the way it was." Eddie tries to cheer her up but she just wasn't biting. Desiree finally looks back at Eddie and snaps, "Does it look like I give a shit about what he does? He just publicly put his hands on me all because he thinks I'm in love with you or something!"
She instantly regretted telling Eddie the reason behind the fight with her and Mark as she watches Eddie's face go stiff. Desiree turns to look away from Eddie and lets tear slide down her face but Eddie stared at her the whole time. He wondered if her boyfriend assumed she was in love with him, did that mean Mark saw something that Eddie didn't?
Eddie looked at the ground before looking up at Desiree with a smile on his face, his smile was forced but she didn't need to know that, "Hey, don't worry, okay?" He said as he grabbed her shoulders and turned her to look at him, "Listen to me, I want you wipe those tears from your face, I want you to go back to work and don't let anyone see that you're upset, okay? I'm gonna take care of this." Eddie instructed her before taking her smaller body in his arms. She sighed and melted into his arms, instantly feeling better about the situation because she had Eddie to comfort her like he always has. Desiree wasn't upset because of Mark accusing her of cheating, she was upset because he realized how she felt about Eddie before she did.
Pulling away from the hug, Eddie gives her a comforting rub of the back, "I'll be back, okay? Just gather yourself in here." Eddie commands Desiree and she complies, wiping her tears from her eyes. Eddie smiles and leaves the bathroom, quickly striding over Mark who was devouring a cheeseburger. Eddie takes a seat in the booth, opposite of him as he never once took his eyes off of Mark. Mark looks up from eating his burger and furrows his eyebrows, "Can I help you, man?" He spoke with a mouthful of food, causing Eddie to cringe at his lack of manners. "Close your fucking mouth and swallow that food before you speak to me." Eddie forewarned as he crossed his arms on the table and leaned against them.
