"Hey Theresa, where's my video camera?" I asked, searching through my backpack. "How am I suppost to know, you probably left it in Simones bag, why d-" "ah ha!" I announce in triumph as I pull it out of my right side jean short pocket, "and before you ask for the seventh million time, I use this to record my thoughts, you know, someone has to keep record of what we go through."
"Yea, or your just crazy and waste batteries on a camera that's bound to get lost, stolen, or broken at anytime" she says in a sarcastic tone.
I look over at her, giving her a smirk "hey! this cameras battery life is 2-3 weeks on just one double A, I'd say those batteries are well spent! Simone, help me out here".
I look toward Simone as she goes through her own bag behind the bar counter. She looks up, saying "hey, I kinda agree with T on this one, you do tend to get a little distracted with it, its like you in another world when that thing is out."
I stood up from one of the booth tables "what?! are you kidding me? what about your make-up bag? you know how much medical supplies we can put in there? or how much food? you practically have an lifetime supply of cosmetics to last all three of us!"
Bad move. I know she really cares about that stuff, like my camera and T's rings, its practically our last shreds of what's left our old lives. Before I could apologize, T stood up and did it for me "Hey Simone, you know how Alyssa can get with her camera, its my fault for bringing it up. Besides, we all have a trinket, you know how I get with my rings, especially my brass knuckles!" with that, she reaches into her jean pockets and pulls out a pair of rust colored brass knuckle rings, slid them on her hands with ease, and got into a boxers fighting stance. She turned towards me and laughed "come on Alyssa! come at me!"
I knew she'd knock me out within seconds, so I turned toward Simone and asked "will Theresa knocking me down make you feel better?" She let out a heartily laugh "No, you know Theresa would kick your ass faster than I could ever lace up my boots." At that point Theresa fell to the ground clenching her sides while in a fit of laughter. I turn towards the windows, making sure that no walkers are lured by T's laughter, eventually Simone and I start laughing along.
After five minutes of nonstop laughter, T finally manages to say "aw man... I haven't laughed this hard in weeks!" I helped her up to her feet after I caught my breath "your right, it feels good". Simone closed her make-up bag and looked towards our bags, her smile slipped from her face "man, we aren't doing so hot on food." T and I fallowed her gaze towards our stock pile spread neatly across a nearby table. She was right, all we had were 3 cans of ravioli and a can of green peas. I turned towards her "don't worry, im sure we'll find a gas station or something" I turned toward T "right?"
Before she could reply, there were multiple sudden moans and groans from the front door. We all stood still while holding our breaths. T grabbed her pistol from the counter and slowly made her way towards the front door, gently drawing the thin laced curtain from the glass. As fast as she drew the curtain did she throw it back down and scurried toward her bag and begin to throw everything back in, saying in a frantic voice "we gotta get out of here! there's like 20 walkers out there!" Simone and I exchanged worried glances and began to pack the supplies. Once I finished, I placed my katana into its sheath across my back and grabbed my two pistols. I turned to Simone, who was pulling out her throwing knifes from her bag, giving me a slight nod. I turned toward T, who was reloading her glock with whatever ammo she had left, which wasn't a lot. "head toward the back door! we can make a break for the forest and lose them there, stick together!" I said as we made our way toward the back.
Once I opened the door, we ran toward the tree line at full speed. I turned around and saw the walkers T had seen through the window, but she hadn't seen the other 50 or so other walkers turning the corner just to the right of the bar. "Herd!" I loudly whispered. They slowed and looked over their shoulders "shit! they saw us, come on!" Simone shouted. As we ran through the forest, the herd had began to fall back, eventually I couldn't hear a single footstep or moan besides out heavy breathing.
After 15 minutes of running, we made it to a deserted side road. I collapsed to my knees on the road with my hands on my hips "I think we lost them" I said out of breath. T looks in both directions of the road "all clear" she said tiredly. I looked at Simone, who was practically lying on the ground "well, you know how that old song goes, on the road again..."
