(Simone's P.O.V.)
All I saw was blood. Whether it's
hers, walkers, or both I'm not sure. But I'm sure that she's bleeding out and needed help. If not, then she'd be dead within a day.
I led the way away from the remains of the gas station, T had thrown Alyssa over her shoulder and carried her fireman's style while I carried all of our bags. It happened so fast, just as I was reaching for her, T had grabbed me and threw me down before I was crushed by the debris. The same debris that had smashed into her head. If it wasn't for T, I would have been killed. But could I have stopped this? The scene played over and over in my mind as we ran up the road. "I had her, I could have saved her"I kept saying to myself under my breath.
As I led Theresa, I could see her right arm drenched in blood. "Put her down! I gotta stop the bleeding before she bleeds out!" I begged. I wasn't a doctor, but I knew a thing or two about first aid. Theresa gently place her on the road, but not before taking off her jacket and placing it under her head as a makeshift pillow. As I began to search through my bag to find the first aid kit, Theresa gripped my shoulder "look! There's a highway up ahead, maybe we can search for medical supplies!". I looked toward where she pointed. It looked no more than another 10 minute run. I looked down at her head once more, and gave out a sigh "okay, but we gotta hurry". T nodded quickly and swung her back over her shoulders and ran at full speed towards the highway before I could even stand. As we made our way off the exit, I got a full view of the highway. There was about fifty or seventy five abandoned cars all jammed on the road. Without hesitation, Theresa opened the trunk of a red truck and laid Alyssa gently down. This time, I saw the wound as it really was. The right side of her head, from the top of her ear to the middle back of her head, was a large gash gushing blood, the wound was surrounded by small pieces of debris and mud, most likely causing a rapid infection to begin. I was stunned. What could I do? I looked at Theresa, tears threatening to spill from my eyes "I.....I don't...." I choked on my own words. T looked toward her again, trying to regain her composure. She looked at the surrounding cars, then locked eyes with something behind me. There was and engine running, multiple running, clearly coming our way. I frantically turned around and noticed a black motorcycle leading a large brown R.V. They were no more than 300 yards away from us. I looked back at Theresa "what do you think?". I haven't seen a living person for a long time, I knew these people could be anyone, but I wasn't going to waste time and let my best friend die over a stupid superstition. Theresa looked back towards me "I don't know, but there's an abandoned ambulance over there" she pointed over my shoulder. I turned back toward the now parked R.V. And saw the ambulance no more than a couple cars in between us and them."I'll take my gun, don't come out until I give the all clear" with that, she ran off toward the highway divider and made her way toward the ambulance.
I kept my eye on the R.V. From what I could tell, there was 2 kids, and older man, 3 women, an Asian guy with a baseball cap, a dude with a crossbow, and a guy with a sniper. I looked back Alyssa, who began to groan in pain. She was alive! I pressed a hand gently over her mouth and tried to shush her. She continued to get louder, obviously not knowing where she was. Then, I heard footsteps. I lowered myself in the back of the truck and held my breath, please let it be Theresa. But these footsteps were more heavier and swifter than Theresa's. I slowly pulled out one of Alyssa's pistols from my bag.
Suddenly, I hear a mans deep voice "stay where you are, put your hands where I can see them" I gently dropped the gun and raised my hand. "And the other one" he said with impatience. I suddenly realized where my hand was, it was on Alyssa's mouth!!! I whipped toward her and moved my hand from her mouth. "Oh my god! She's not breathing!!" I cried out. I began to do chest compressions, begging her to respond. The man stood there for a moment before he ran back toward his group, but I didn't care. Then Theresa ran around the opposite direction and held a medical kit. Her eyes flashed with horror "what happened?!". I kept doing the compressions, begging her to come back. Then the man returned with the elderly man in the hat that I saw "My name's Dale, this is Shane, we can help you! I have a bed in the R.V. And clean water, we can help clean the wound! We won't hurt you I promise, we can help!". I looked up at him, tears flowing down my cheeks "please.... Just bring her back!" I sobbed. He nodded, telling the man to bring her to the R.V. He scooped her up and chased after him with Theresa not too far behind. I looked towards the other members of his group. The two kids were being shielded by their mothers while a blonde lady was yelling at the man with the sniper, obliviously not happy with helping us. I looked down at the floor of the truck, then my hands, both stained with blood. This time, I dropped down to the road and began to throw up. As I heaved, I heard on of the woman run over to me, drop to her knees, and began to rub my back and tried to calm me down, telling me that she was going to be okay and that her name was Lori. Once I finish, I slowly grabbed our bags, and made my way to the R.V. with Lori and another woman supporting me while carrying all three of our bags.
Then, the door to the trailer was flung open. T slowly walked out, looking out ahead of her as if she was daydreaming. I slipped from the women's grips and walked to Theresa. It wasn't until I called her, that I noticed her blood stained hands and cloths. Her face seemed broken. She ahead at nothing with empty eyes and said "They brought her back, but she isn't breathing steady. Her heartbeat is so weak...." At that point, she collapsed on her knees and began to cry, harder than I've ever seen anyone cry. I was numb as I walked into the R.V. I saw her. She was screaming in pain, anguish, distraught while surrounded by the men holding her down as Dale tried to clean the wound. Why her? Why us?
