(Theresa's P.O.V.)
I sat outside the R.V. In the shade after Dale told me that all we could do was wait. He cleaned the wound, bandaged it, and ushered us outside. I was still in shock. Was this all a dream?
After about ten minutes of waiting, I decided to find the leader of Dales group. I walked past the blonde I'd made note of earlier. Her stare was cold, but mine was just as harsh.
I remembered her screaming at some dude named Rick when I saw that Shane guy ran past where I hid. After they brought her in, the blonde bitch was screaming "what the hell Rick!? We're barley making ends meet as is".
It took all of my will power not to smash her face through a car windshield, but I knew that I had to show some respect towards them. They didn't have to help us, but they are anyway. I finally noticed him sitting on top of the R.V. looking through a pair of binoculars. "Hey, your Rick?" I asked. He looked down at me giving me a gentle smile "Yea, that's me. What can I help you with?". I chose my next words carefully "first of all, I want to thank you and your people for deciding to help my friend. Second, I don't want to sound desperate" I stopped. Of course we're desperate! Alyssa's on the borderline of death! "But once Dale stops the bleeding-". He whipped to right side looking out towards the road. He looked through his binoculars and mumbled something. "What's wrong?" I looked ahead and felt a surge of anger come over me. Another herd. The same herd that drove us from the bar! I ran in the R.V. and searched through my bag for my glock. As I loaded it, I alerted Dale "A herd's heading this way, I'll tell your people. Lock the door, close the windows and stay low. Keep her safe!" I said as I tossed my gun toward him. He looked at me in shock, but I didn't stay to hear what he had to say. I ran out of the R.V. alerted the Simone and the two mothers to get under the cars and stay quite. I ran ahead and ushered the kids under a truck. I turned around and saw them heading my way. "Fuck!" I mumbled under my breath. I dove under the car behind where the girl hid, next to her the little boy.
There had to be at least 50 walkers. All around me I heard the groans of the undead, shuffling mindlessly, just fallowing one another in a constant train of death. I looked ahead of me and saw the girl beginning to look behind, we suddenly locked eyes for a solid minute. I didn't know what to do, so I gave a nod and held my finger to my lips. She gave a nod and looked back at the boy.
After what seemed like an eternity, the herd finally passed through. I looked ahead of me and saw the girl begin to drag herself from under the car, but before she could stand, two walkers began to come at her from behind! Before I could help, the girl hopped the fence and ran into the forest with both walkers on her heels. I crawled from under the car and ran after her.
I could just make out the walkers in the distance before I noticed a short cut. I made a sharp right and ran at full speed. Once I got a glimpse of the girl, I called her over from her right "Hey! It's okay, I'm not one of them." She whipped her head towards me and ran over nearly in tears, begging for me to shoot the walkers. Before I could answer, we heard the groans from behind her. Without hesitation, I scooped her up in my arms and ran to the stream up ahead. I looked for something to defend ourselves with, but all I could find was a head sized rock. I looked at the small ledge from where we'd came from and noticed a hole in the dirt behind a fallen tree, suddenly getting an idea. I put the girl down and explained to her "alright, you wedge yourself into that hole, go back as far as you can. I'll lead them away. When you think it's safe, run back to the highway, keep the sun over your left shoulder alright?" I asked. She gave me a slow nod in agreement, I gave a small smile "don't worry, your smart, you'll be okay, I promise." With that, she climbed her way into the hole just as the walkers arrived. I waved my arms up calling out to them "over here you sons of bitches! Come on!" I ran off up stream with the walkers on my tail, thinking to myself about the girl. How could I tell her that everything was going to be okay when I didn't even know her name?
I ran for another minute or two before I stopped and looked for a weapon. I looked up towards the trees and tried to pull out a thick branch to defend myself with, but the more I pulled, the closer the walkers got. Suddenly I remembered my brass knuckles! I reached into my back pocket and slipped them on, getting into my stance. The minute they turned the corner, I attacked. I killed the first one with ease, tripping it to the ground and stomping on its head until the skull collapsed. The second one ran toward me with its arms outstretched, craving for my flesh "I don't think so" i said in a mocking tone and I connected my fist with its jaw, sending the now jawless walker to the ground. I checked my hands for any scratches, but saw nothing but blood. I gently pulled my knuckles from my fingers and placed them in my pockets. I looked toward the dead walkers one more, and ran off towards the highway.
When I finally made my way back, Simone and the group watched me walk up the slope alone. A short haired woman in a tank top asked me breathlessly "where's Sophia? Didn't you find her? Where is she!?" I looked around to all the waiting faces "I didn't have anything to kill the walkers quietly, so I had her hide as I drew the walkers away. I told her how to get back! I wouldn't have left her if I didn't think she was capable of getting back." The mother began to sob into her hands, asking "how could you leave her out there? She's just a little girl! She's just a little girl" she continually said this. Lori walked over to her and led her away, reassuring her that we'd find her.
So that's her name, Sophia. Don't worry, I'll find you, I promise.
