A few hours later I was back at the apartment with Nick. I was in the kitchen making dinner. He was on the couch watching the flat screen. Charlie was on my mind, I wanted to see him again. Before I had to leave the office we got to know each other. It was nice talking to him, it's nice to be reminded that not all men are barbaric.

"Aye, babe when's dinner going to be done?" Nick yelled from the couch.

"In a few minutes." I replied, sighing as I finshed up the soup.

Nowadays, I was always cold with him, from hand holding to kissing to the bedroom, everything was cold. I only did it because I had to and whenever he touched me I would go numb. It was my defense mechanism, I would block everything out. Nick walked into the kitchen and smacked my ass while he passed me. He grabbed another beer from the fridge and walked back out of the kitchen. I scowled and began working at controlling my temper.

A few minutes later, we were both at the dinner table eating.

"So, I'm not sure about you visiting your brother anymore Cali." he said breaking the silence.

My blood began to boil, I was well aware of where this conversation was going to go. But at that same time, I could feel fear creeping in.

"What do you mean Nick?" I asked as I gave him my full attention.

"I don't know, with him being a lawyer and everything I don't need him snooping around or putting any ideas in your head." he said as he looked up from his food.

"He's my brother hun, I can't just not talk to him anymore." I said, thinking of what I was going to do to try to convince him. Visiting Brett was the only thing I had to look forward to anymore.

"Sure you can, I'll just have some of the boys take care of him." He said like it was no big deal. Poof...there goes my appetite.

"Come on Nick, that really isn't necessary. The visits aren't hurting anybody." I said, I needed to change the the subject, and fast.

"Hey where were you yesterday? How come the money wasn't paid?" I asked acting concerned although I really didn't give a flying flip.

"How you let me worry about that huh?" He said.

"Well I was just wondering.." I said and was immediately cut off.

"Drop it Calista." He snapped at me. There goes some of my restraint.

"Did you give them the money?" I asked.

"Yea." He said as he put another spoon full of soup in his mouth, then I noticed his eyes were kind of yellow and he looked way out of it.

"Dammit Nick, did you take more?" I snarled.

"Mind your own damn business Calista, I'll do whatever the hell I want, understand?" He said warningly. And there went the last of my restraint.

"I've had it up to here with the damn drugs Nick! Stop they aren't doing you any good and I'm tired of assholes showing up in the morning demanding their god damn money when I don't have a clue what the hell they're talking about!!" I yelled, standing up.

"Watch your dumb ass mouth woman." He said as he stood up too. This is something that happens way too often.

"I'm done Nick I really am, go to hell." I said and turned away to walk out like always.
