Makki squished his eyes tightly shut, he couldn't bare to look at the results.
Not when there was so much chance he would lose.
Makki couldn't help wanting to win, with Kawa of course.
Makki didn't want to win unless Kawa did too.
That was a condition Makki wished he had more control over.
But control was something Makki didn't have enough of.
He had lost control too many times and had no more power over things a teenager should have control over.
Including the people he loved's feelings towards him. Although, Makki understood most people don't have control of that.
But Makki couldn't tell if they liked him back, because he had known them his whole life and their attitudes towards him had never changed.
Makki's spiralling was stopped by a hand in his.
"Look up," Kawa's voice whispered, Kawa's eyes were filled with light that Makki never wanted to disappear.
Makki couldn't help trusting the boy, he looked towards the scoring system.
Every time he trusted Kawa it ended well; when he found his first pokemon, when they decided to fly together, and now.
"We did it," Makki muttered.
He couldn't help the disbelief he felt, it seemed impossible for this outcome to come to pass.
"We tied second!" Kawa whispered, but the excitement was still evident in his voice. "The world will know our names, together."
Makki couldn't help the fond smile that reached his face after Kawa said that.
'Together', Makki definitely liked that word. Makki would always like that if it was about him and any of hi friends.
'My world already does,' Makki thought, his mind conjuring the image of Iwa, Mattsun, and Kawa, but he couldn't bring himself to say it. So, instead, he just nodded.
They left the stage area to get changed back into their former clothes. Makki stuck beside Kawa, they didn't mind not winning first because now they got second together.
"Well done to both of you," Akaashi congratulated the duo. "You both deserve that placing, some would argue you should have beat me."
"Some would argue the ocean is green," Kawa pointed out, "That doesn't mean it's right. It would have been insane luck to win in our first attempt at this."
"True, but it still didn't surprise me to see you two in the top three," Akaashi stated before he was stolen away by Bokuto.
"They're such a cute relationship," Kawa smiled towards the Fukorodani gym leaders.
"Akaashi and Bokuto, right?" Makki asked for confirmation that his thoughts were right.
"And Kenma and Kuroo," Kawa stated as if it was obvious.
"What?" Makki couldn't help his shock, "But- it's four people in a relationship... Aren't relationships only two people?"
"Oh, you poor, poor, uneducated boyo," Kawa tutted playfully, but it didn't stop Makki from feeling bad, "There's a thing called polyamory. It means you love more than one person." Kawa suddenly seemed very nervous, he started to wring his hands, "I'm bisexual and polyamory."
Makki couldn't say a word. He wanted to tell Kawa he was polyamory and, well, he didn't know his sexuality. Makki just knew he loved his three childhood best friends.
