I see hesitation crossing Jona's face. Maybe I should not have done this.
"This is gonna end bad, I just know it." She sighs, "But whatever." Jona finishes her sentence getting back into the car. Making sure her dress is not caught between the door and the car. A very cute looking dress might I add.
"So dinner?" She asks as I leave the premises of the hotel.
"Yep, we're going to my favourite place." I tell her. There's this pub just outside of Woking. They're always showing sports on the tv, and they have great food.
Needless to say, dinner was great. We enjoyed some amazing burgers. We also talked a bit, but Jona was kind of occupied with the football matches they were showing as well. This girl really loves her sports. I even learned she plays at home, but she claims she's not any good at it.
"I'll be taking you home after this right?" I ask her as she's scanning around the room.
"Well to my hotel, but yeah that'd be nice. I don't want to have to walk there." She says a small smile playing on her lips.
"We could also not go yet." She then suggests her eyes landing on the pool table in the corner of the pub.
"What are you suggesting Miss Middel?" I ask as the waiter brings us new drinks.
"Well I could beat you at pool." She says pointing at the pool table.
"Oh bring it on." I say, picking up my drink and putting it on the table next to the pool table.
"Oh come on," Jona exclaims, after I won our third game of pool with an impossible shot, making the ending score 2-1 in my favour.
"Guess you did beat me then." I say, a smile on my face.
After paying for dinner and drinks, we walk out of the pub back to my car. "I had fun tonight." I tell Jona as I open the door of the car for her.
"I did as well." She says smiling. Her smile is seriously adorable.
God, Norris. Stop checking her out. You've got to work with her.
The drive back to Jona's hotel is as enjoyable as the rest of the evening was. She's a really kid person to be around. When I turn onto the road leading to her hotel, Jona's posture changes. I look ahead, seeing an accident that has happend on the other side of the road.
"Are you okay?" I ask her, tears already pricking in her eyes.
"I-I'm alright." She stammers, but I can tell she's not okay.
"Jona, it's okay, you can talk to me." I tell her, but tears are slowly trickling down her face.
"I, I..." She stammers, before breaking into uncontrollable sobs.
"Let's get you to your room?" I suggest, and she nods in agreement.
We quickly enter the hotel lobby, directly entering the elevator that just opened up to let some people out. Jona buries her head into my chest, as we're standing in the elevator. I put my arms around her, trying to comfort her. It is then I realise that I do not know what rooms she is, and I do not know what floor we have to go.
"Jona, what room are you in?" I aks her quietly.
"304." She sniffs, as I press the three, and she hands me her room key.
The elevator makes a sound, indicating we're at the third floor. We get out and a still sobbing Jona is leading the way to her room.
"Are you okay for me to come in?" I ask her, as we arrive at her room.
"Yeah." She sniffs as we enter her room.
Jona takes a seat on her bed, before she starts sobbing uncontrollably again. I take a seat next to her, rubbing my arm over her back trying to calm her down.
"You can talk to me." I whisper to her. "But you don't have to, just let it out."
"It's okay." She sobs. "I want to."
I look at her, waiting for her to continue. Giving her the time she needs to gather her thoughts a bit.
"I lost my mom in a car accident." She sniffs, I can feel my heart sink. "This Sunday it is 8 years ago. We were on vacation here in the UK, when a drunk driver swerved into our lane and we were hit. Both me and my mom were in the hospital for quite some time. I pulled through, and she seemed to be doing well. She was flown to a hospital in the Netherlands, only to die from a heart attack while bringing her from the plane to the hospital."
I don't know how to respond to the heartbreaking news she just shared. "So when we just saw the accident, it triggered some bad memories?" I decide to ask her, needing the reassurance that I am think what Jona is feeling.
Jona just nods, the sobs coming more frequently. I put my arms around her, letting her cry a bit.
We sit on her bed, just in silence. The occasional sob escaping her lips.
I take a quick glance at the clock. 1.26 it reads. I should be going home, I have a flight to Austin to catch tomorrow. But I can't leave her like this.
"Lando?" She whispers, looking up at me. I make eye contact with her. "Would you mind staying? I don't think I should be here on my own tonight."
