Marvin shot out of bed; his heart clenched.
Did he really-? What just...?
And then it hit him.
Starless had been the demon's friend, and now he was back for revenge. HE had sent him that dream.
Starless must've teamed up with the child because it reminded him of his demon...
Marvin shook the thought out of his head- no, he couldn't think like that! They were the enemy! If he started pitying them now, he wouldn't be able to get rid of them when the time came.
But he thought back to the memories he was given, knowing them to be real.
'How could they claim US as the bad guys like that? Didn't Anti attack us first? Didn't the demon need exorcised? And what did we ever do to a child?'
He shook his head. No, they would never hurt a child! This must be a misunderstanding... Unless...
They didn't hurt it directly.
Marvin clenched his shirt over his heart, gasping as he thought he came to an ugly conclusion
'Child... Demon... Starless...'
'Starless was calling the demon his 'starlight'...'
And he thought back to the ghost's form.
Its figure had looked eerily similar to that of the demon's, just maybe a little shorter and less imposing.
'Is Sam Starless' kid?!' But he quickly shook the thought out of his head. 'No, the demon wasn't capable of birthing a child! It wasn't a fucking seahorse!... But they could've adopted... No, because then the whole thing with them looking similar would go out the window! Maybe a family member? Not that either, because we would've known...'
'Maybe their only similarity is that they're both small? That could very well just be it and the thing WAS their adopted kid. It doesn't matter. Either way, Sam and Starless were attached to that demon...'
The magician got to his feet with a sigh, still trembling a bit. That voice had given him quite the scare when it screamed at him.
It only made him more relieved to know that those bastards would be gone tomorrow.
But it gave him mixed feelings as well...
Yes, Marvin IS happy that they could finally go back to their normal lives and that would put an end to all the chaos the demon had caused... But something in him was disturbed, disappointed. Upset, even!
He didn't know why, but the idea of destroying the ghost made him feel like the weight of the world was lifted off of his shoulders but put into his stomach, filling him with a dreadful but light feeling.
The magician went downstairs to get some milk, needing it after that 'nightmare'.
When he realized that maybe that was just it- it was a nightmare and didn't mean any of those things. It was just his conscious coming up with all the ways the Septics could be the bad guys in this situation.
...Or maybe that was just wishful thinking.
