when you said you were fine working on christmas, you didn't mean that you wanted to work on christmas day the whole day.
alone.
but when the schedule for christmas break came in, and you saw your name on the list as the only one that would be there from 12 till 6, you got furious. only you knew you couldn't do anything about it, as you already said yes. plus, your coworker, one of your close friends, already works in the morning, and she begged you not to switch as she's finally spending that time with her boyfriend who was away for two years because of covid.
you sigh and put on your apron, your eyes showing nothing more than not wanting to be there. seriously, who wants to work the whole evening? everyone is spending christmas with their families at home, yet here you are on christmas day, spending it at the cafe, alone.
not only because your family isn't even close to you, also because you have to work.
you're born in japan, but your mother is from south-korea. she moved to japan for your dad, but once you were old enough you decided to move to seoul. but that means, now that you have to work on this day, that you're not spending christmas with them, and rather alone in the café that you work at.
and at home just chilling with the food you're going to cook for yourself to at least have something fun.
your friend left as soon as you were there, saying she was going to pick her boyfriend from the airport, which you get.
so now you're standing alone in the empty cafe, with your coffee machines, and your apron and songs that are playing from a random playlist.
you sigh and turn to the coffee machine. if you need to get through this day, at least you can get a nice coffee for yourself. your boss always says it's fine to get your own drinks. probably because you're just the best employee that works there, so you're get that benefit.
you make your favourite drink for yourself, mixing everything together, and swirling the spoon through it so you can mix it well. then you take a sip from your coffee and you sigh satisfied.
at least you have fantastic coffee through the whole six hour shift you have ahead of yourself.
an hour into your shift, and without you knowing, a guy stumbles into the cafe.
