chapter nineteen

(Zayn's POV)

I am such and asshole.  How could I yell at her and slam a door in her face and not even realize I was being an ass. I look over at her and watch her drive this car. Her eyes light up when she drives this car,maybe I should give her this.

I smile looking at her and every time she takes a turn she bites her lip slightly and smirks. I smile at her and put my hand on her thighs she drives. She takes a quick look at me and smiles. It wasn't until now that I realised she has a bruise on her jaw. What the fuck was that from?!?

"Carson?" She looks at me for a split second "yeah?" I sigh and touch her face where the bruise is and she winces slightly "ow,shit!" I nod and suck my top lip in my mouth. "When the hell did you get that?" She looks in the rear view mirror and then her eyes widen "well shit.....I honestly didn't notice it."

I shake my head "how could you not notice it,it's on your face!" She looks out the window as she drives and then looks straight and parks at the restaurant. "Zayn I'm sorry,I did notice it but I hoped you wouldn't." I shake my head at her. "And why the hell not?"

She sighs "because I know you would be pissed." I scoff and cross my arms over my chest "yes I'm fucking pissed,how could I not be.......where is it from?" She takes a sharp breath and shakes her head "it is probably just from when I collapsed on the hospital floor."

I shoot my head up to hers and look in her eyes,I can tell your lying,Carson....come on? "Carson,tell me the truth." She sighs and looks down tearing up. "I...ummm, I got kidnapped and the uh....man tried to....do things,to me....he-he hit me." My eyes widen and my jaw clentches and I pound my fist on the flash bored making her jump and gasp.

"DAMN IT,WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME, I could've helped you!" She cries and I pull her into me and she cries in my chest while I rub her back and tears sting the back of my eyes. I breath a shaky breath and say "Carson,baby.....I wish you would've told me." She nods and looks up at me "I didn't because I know you would try and kill him."

I look at her in disbelief "yeah I would,he deserves to die because he did this to you!" She sighs and looks down "he's already dead." I look at her and say "wait, what?!?" She starts to sob a little.

"I uhh.....I killed him,I was running and I crossed the road and he came after me and got hit by a semi truck." I sigh and rub her back and kiss her temple "it's not your fault it's the drivers and he deserved it any ways." She nods and says "his eyes were so cold and he was very tall."

I rub her back while she tells me her story "his eyes were gray and he had black hair, he was scary." I freeze and ask "d-did he have a scar across his left cheek?" She nods and looks up "you,k-know him?" I nod and back away she looks at me and says "how?" I let out a breath and bite my lip "he is Brighton's brother."

Her eyes turn horrified and she stares at me for a few second and let's out a shallow gasp and says "b-brighton's brother?" I nod and tell her about how when he came to apply for the job of a royal guard his brother came to but,my father didn't trust him and he turned Jack down.

Her eyes widen as I tell her the story.
(Flashback)

I walk down the hallway to tell my father I'm going to town to get lunch with Liam. I can hear voices through the door and I open it seeing two men and they look very dark like they hide something. I walk to my father and say "hello,father I'm off to town to have lunch with Liam,and discuss business."

My father looks at me amd smiles "okay son,make sure that he signs the treaty of agreement for uniting our kingdoms as allies." I nod and look at the men "who are these lads?"My father clears his throat and says "this fellow here is Brighton." He points to a man with dark blue eyes and shiny hair and a hard face. I nod at him and he nods back.

He then points to a man with black hair and grey eyes tan skin and an evil smirk "and this is Jack." I look him up and down and shake my head in disapproval but don't say anything. "Well,it was nice meeting you lads I must be going now." Brighton smiles and Jack nods at me and then smirks at my father.

My father squints his eyes at the men as I leave and when I close the door I press my ears to it and hear their conversation. My father sighs " well lads,I only need one of you." My father then says "I need someone who is able to protect the home and my family and treat us with great honor."

I hear silence. I'm guessing they nod and wait for him to continue. "And I feel that the only person who I can trust to do this job is......Brighton, you are my new guard." I hear a sharp intake of breath and a slam "NO! I HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT RESPECTFUL AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME,YOU PIECE OF SHIT KING?!?" Jack.

I hear a chair slide back and I hear my father yell "NOW YOU LISTEN HEAR YOU UNGRATEFUL SCUM,YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A WASTE OF MY SPACE AND AIR SO IF YOU'RE DONE HERE I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE NOW!" I hear nothing for a while and then I hear footsteps coming and I run and hide around the corner.

The door slams open and Jack storms off and leaves the castle slamming the front gates and screams. I hear a sigh and then I hear my father once again "now,Brighton I'm terribly sorry for that but that's unnecessary to act the way your brother did." I hear a slight chuckle "yes sir,it was."

My father chuckles "I'm glad you're apart of the crew now you may go home and get you're belongings and return if you wish to live here." I hear footsteps and then I hear a thank you. All I can think is what the hell happened back there.
