The buildings are unfamiliar and so are the people in it.

Left.

Right.

Nope. Not a single known person.

My phone buzzes - Jackson.

I swipe right, "You know who you called."

"How's orientation?"

"It hasn't started. Do I have to be here?"

"Crystal, it's part of our agreement. Remember?"

Before setting foot on Pandora Academy, I may have thrown one of the largest tantrums in my life. If you called slamming the bedroom door, refusing to eat, and fake crying under the covers a tantrum.

"You attend orientation, and I'll get you that car you wanted."

The thought of a brand-new car put a smile on my face.

"Mom says I can't drive, I'm too young." Plus, I don't have my driver's license.

"I'll figure something out. Okay?"

"Fine."

"So, first-"

I rolled my eyes, "First I attend the stupid orientation then you sign me up for the stupid driving test."

"Precisely."

Jackson got a loose screw, and we all have no choice but to accept it.

"Oh, before I forget-"

"Abby's husband's younger brother is attending Pandora Academy too."

There is a brief silence on the other end  before he responds with: "Did I tell you that already?"

"Only like five times."

"Huh. I must be losing it."

"A tad."

The longer I talked to Jackson, the less lonely it felt. That's it. That's why I'm allowing him to talk to me longer than usual. So, I don't look like a lonely loser.

Soon, I found myself on a bench at the bottom of a tree, picking on my thigh.

"Don't you have a job to go to?" I asked.

"This is more important."

Idiot.

"I may be losing it-"

"Probably."

"But, doesn't your orientation start at 8:30?"

"Yeah."

"It's 11."

"Yup."

Jackson releases a deep breath, "Crystal."

"Well, what can I say? What we're doing is much more important."
