Unlike you, I was always there.

Ready as a blanket of warmth, arms of repair.

I steadied your racing heart, wiped away your tears.

But where were you amid all my fears?

I panicked, I cried.

Sometimes, whilst in distress, I lied.

In the end I learned to bottle my emotions, jar them, tightly fixed.

I didn't know how to feel as it were all mixed.

I needed your support, I needed it back.

But instead, you swung for my heart with an axe.

It was never me, always you.

Centre of attention, leaving me so blue.

You broke me down, crushed me up.

Now I am no more than a pile of dust.

Unlike you, I was always there.

Ready as a blanket of warmth, arms of repair.

I steadied your racing heart, wiped away your tears.

But where were you amid all my fears?
