NICHOLAS
"This is something that can be resolved over a little talk. Don't you think killing him is extreme?" Gregorio asked, frowning.
Like fuck, I was going to let what he did slide. I dealt with Eduardo's issue in private because I intended for it to end there. I didn't expect his dim-witted son to come after me, but now that he did, it was a perfect time to make an example of him, so others knew what would happen if they ever came for me or mine.
Getting Marcello had been easy. The bastard had been foolish enough to return to his house the next morning. After Matteo got Giselle out of the house, more men had arrived to deal with the remaining guards, and on my orders, they laid in wait for Marcello. He was just as stupid as his father, and it wasn't a surprise everything worked out with no damage to our side.
"He came for my family first. Don't sit down there and talk peace with me when the bastard killed my men and kidnapped my wife - your daughter - out of my house."
Gregorio waved me off nonchalantly. "Giselle is fine, isn't she? From what I heard, she came out of the ordeal unscathed, and that's because Marcello had no plans to hurt her. Don't let your anger cloud your judgment. Giselle is just a manipulative whore who loves to play on people's emotions. She is making this a big deal and using this to cause a war between you and the Ferraris.
"That's why Marcello came for you. Because of the incident at the auction and my party, and the fact that you are still sticking by her, of course, fingers will point at you when something happens to Eduardo. Frankly, I expected you to have tossed her away like the garbage she is the moment she put her hands on Eduardo. She's not worth the trouble."
The fuck? Fucking unbelievable! This was his daughter we were talking about here, not some stranger he'd never set his eyes on. His fucking blood!
"I hope to fuck I'm hearing things, Gregorio. You didn't just call my wife garbage and a manipulative whore." I tightened my grip on my gun that rested on my thigh, concealed from the view of others. My finger was already on the trigger, far too excited to put an end to this bastard's worthless life.
He had the guts to roll his fucking eyes, leaning back in his seat with a smug smile. "I didn't lie, did I? As I said, she's not worth the trouble. Dump the fucking bitch and move on with your life. Maybe we wouldn't have to deal with you bitching at us because Marcello tried to take revenge for his father."
"What are you saying, Gregorio?" Fabiano barked, his voice filled with thunderous rage. "Quella ragazza è tua figlia."
"È lei, Fabiano? Is she?" Gregorio asked, a nasty scowl on his ugly mug.
I watched with confusion as a strange look I couldn't place crossed Fabiano's face, but it was gone just as quickly. These two were hiding something important, and my gut told me Giselle had everything to do with it.
"Yes, Gregorio. You don't speak about family in such a disgusting way. She's your daughter. Accord her with such respect and stop dragging her name through the mud."
"Giselle ceased to be my daughter the day she humiliated me in front of everyone by slapping a close friend. Over my dead body, will I accept her as my daughter. As far as I am concerned, I only have one daughter, and Giselle killed her in an accident."
My blood boiled with consuming rage, and my head filled with murderous thoughts, each one of them starring none other than the scum of the earth lying through his fucking teeth. "Gianna is responsible for her downfall. Don't drag Giselle into that. If anything, she should be the one getting all the sympathy."
He huffed. "She seems to get that from you already, so I'd say that's already covered, no?"
"Enough of this argument," Marino Colombo shouted. His voice had the desired effect. Everyone fell silent. Marino hardly spoke at meetings like this, but when he spoke, he commanded the attention of everyone in the room.
