Hide And Run

Looking at the text from Snake, Winter gave a weak sigh as he texted back. 'Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?' It took a few minutes before Snake responded. 'I was walking on the street and also you running before getting into a car. I just wanted to make sure you are okay.'

Winter gave a weak laugh at this response 'an old friend just came to pick me up, that's all' 'what about you running?' Winter looked at the message with a small smile; he left the message on read and carried on the rest of the day; before going to bed, he called his boss. "Hey, boss, it's Winter; listen, I'm sorry to say I don't feel too good. I won't be in tomorrow or Thursday. I'm really sorry."

"You don't need to apologize, Winter. I understand. I'll see you Friday, hopefully". Going to bed, Winter sighed, looking up at the ceiling with a sigh "why me?" Come Wednesday, Winter lay in bed; turning off the alarm, he fell back asleep.

"Where is he? He should have left by now," Snake asked, worried about his friend not leaving his apartment yet. "Webs, have you seen him on the cameras at all?" Wolf asked, "nope, nothing; he must not be in today, but that doesn't make sense; it says he's off at the weekend." Webs replied. Snake being more worried, called Winter.

"Hello?" A groggy voice spoke, "Winter, it's Snake; sorry to call so early, but after you ran around yesterday, I was wondering if you want me to walk you to work today just in case." "Heh, thanks for the offer, Snake, but I don't feel too good today, so I'm not going in today or tomorrow." "Oh, you're not feeling too good? How about I come over see if you need anything."

Winter rubbed his face looking at the ceiling "no, Snake, it's okay; you don't need to come over." "Okay, Winter, if you need anything, just let me know" ending the call, the group looked at each other worried; meanwhile, Winter went back to sleep for a few more hours. Finally getting out of bed, Winter started to play some video games until hunger took over.

With the Good guys they were in a cafe chatting, "why didn't you try and talk with him?" Snake slammed his cup down, annoyed "we never got a chance to; he just kept walking faster and then full-blown running; we nearly had him, but he got into a car." Wolf replied, throwing his hands into the air. Diane then spoke up, "I don't think it helped following him in the car for the first few minutes."

Hearing this, Webs slammed her head on the table and groaned "why did you think that was a good idea?" Wolf sighed, rubbing his face. "I don't know; I panicked; it's not every day you see your boyfriend; look, I'm sorry, okay." Wolf felt a hand on his; it was Diane giving him a warm smile "at least he doesn't know our past" "yeah, because we aren't from this universe" Snake mumbled.

Shark closed Snake's mouth "not so loud, remember we can't let them know" "I know, I know, let's go." As the group got in the car, Diane pulled out a metal glove with a glass dome on top with a small purple crystal inside with a gold circle around the glass dome. "I have no idea how he made it, but it's how we got here."

The multiverse time-traveling device, or M.T.T.D for short, was something that Winter had made with someone's help but the group looked towards each other "should we really be doing this? I mean, is this right?" Piranha asked to this Wolf grew a determined look "no, we need to do this; if we don't, he will never remember us, we won't be fully happy, and none of the great adventures we go on will never happen, so are we doing this?"

Wolf put his paw down as Diane put her paw in, followed by Web's legs; next was Shark's hand, Piranha's hand, and finally, everyone looked to Snake, who rolled his eyes. "God only knows what I'd be without him" he put his tail on top. "Okay, guys, come the weekend; we need to introduce ourselves to him."

On Thursday, Winter had another lazy day but did some cooking as he flicked through news articles until one made his heart skip a beat; he looked at for horror it was a photo of Snake and five other animals saying they were wanted criminals reading the article fully Winter started to panic more he didn't see the article was from over a year ago and the bad guys had redeemed themselves.

He saw a call coming in from Snake he rejected it in a panic. Friday, Winter woke up early and went down the steps; the same car drove by, but Winter got a look and saw Snake in the car, who winked at him in a panic; he slipped down some steps and hit his head "owww shit that hurt" the car stopped and rolled back hearing this Winter scrambled to his feet and ran off towards work.

"He's gone; why run off like that? I thought you two were friends," Diane said as Snake looked down the steps, sad "he rejected my call yesterday fast maybe he saw something" "Webs, any chance you could check his search history?" Wolf pinched his nose as he said this, but Webs did and saw what had made him run "ohnononnononono" "Webs, what's wrong?" Shark asked as she showed everyone the article.

"But that article is over a year old, and how did it end up in this universe?" Piranha asked, "maybe the M.T.T.D did it, but he must not have seen the date and panicked; we need to find and explain everything to him." Diane stated after a long day, the rain was coming down hard, but Winter didn't care; he started to walk home, not seeing a certain Camero following him.

Walking faster, the car stopped as Winter kept going around a corner; he soon saw his shortcut, but it was really muddy this time; thinking about not using a car horn broke his train of thought; looking back in horror, he saw the car "Winter wait we need to talk" but he ran taking his shortcut mud splashed up against him as he heard car doors open a shark, wolf, fox, and Snake got out.

Looking back, Winter didn't see the root "WINTER THE ROOT!" Snake yelled, but it was too late; with a yell of pain, half of Winter's foot had gone under said root forcing his body forward as he tumbled down the hill and hit things on the way down, causing cuts and bruises to appear on his body. "Quick back to the car!"

Winter stumbled to his feet; his shirt and trousers were littered with cuts and mud; his face had blood coming from his mouth; he held his right arm in pain, and his left leg had a slight limp to it. Looking at his hands, they were bleeding, but he kept walking there were no cars on the road or anyone to help him he had made it to the steps when he head that damn car horn again.

Not looking back he limped up the stairs his home was close but he was starting to feel woozy he felt out of breath taking a breath and spiting out some blood. He looked back and saw a pair of headlights Winter knew who it was ignoring the pain in his leg he ran his who body screamed in pain tears ran down his face but he didn't want to stop until the foot that had gotten caught in the root twisted.

Another scream of pain he forced himself to his feet dragging a hand against the wall for balance he got into the elevator as his chasers car came to a halt abd the doors opened getting to his floor he fell again and crawled his way to his home. Using the handle as way to get up he opened the door and slammed it shut behind him as the group got out on his floor.

Snake used his tail to go under the door and unlock it, Winter weakly turned around as the door flung open his vision blured more he stumbled as something yellow sped towards him a voice spoke "it's okay Winter your safe now" more blurs came towards him "it's true you are safe now" another one said.

From the sheer level of adrenaline had finally stopped running through Winter's body he fell over backwards but he didn't feel a thud but felt hands catch him but those last words rang through his head as darkness took over

"You are safe now."
