I so happy when he mentioned about my late parent death because I was interested in knowing the reason behind my late parents death and nothing more of that. I wasn't interested in the Biafra struggle and the group he was talking about.
And I asked
"What happened to my late parents?.."
But he was coughing again...
I was very disappointed that he was coughing when I needed to know the story behind my late parents death.
The I asked
"Grandpa was happening,"
"Are you okay? Should I take you inside the house?.."
When I asked him he was alright at that moment and wasn't coughing.
And Maduka said
"No Need, don't worry about me, I just want to take a walk but take this money and buy me fish."
I collected the money for the fish and counted it was five thousand so put it in my pocket.
I was eager to hear the story about my late parents' death. I had no other choice than to go and buy the fish first before we talked about anything else.
And how to deal with the Biafra struggle he was talking about.
Then I replied
"Okay, grandpa.."
I left the scene but my grandpa was still looking at me and then my grandpa sat down and then looked around. After some minutes my grandpa stood up and started walking back to his home.
My grandpa arrives at his house and then picks up his radio and his chessboard and he continues coughing.
He entered his house and sat down on the chair and was listening to his radio and he took his pen and a white paper was on the table where he was seated. The radio was discussing today's news.
He was coughing and writing as tears dropped down from his eyes and after finishing writing my grandpa stood up and picked up all his paperwork that was scattered near his seat. After picking up the paperwork and gathering them he put them in his bag.
And then he head over to his seat and sat down and he was coughing again while his radio that was discussing today's suddenly switched to playing music and my grandpa was enjoying the song being played on the radio.
While sitted it was like he wanted to stand up and dance but sat down there while tears rolled down his eyes.
While my grandpa was fast asleep the letter he wrote was still there and the letter fell off the edge of the table together with the pen.
It was his legs that mistakenly hit the table that made it fall to the edge of the seat he was seated in.
I was walking as fast as I could and then I stopped walking fast but slow this time around it was like something wasn't right.
What made me stop walking fast was the errand he sent me to buy fish and I was coming down the mountain hills looking at the sky.
And then I suddenly look back but I didn't see anyone at my back so I continued walking.
When my grandpa sent me on an errand to buy fish, what came to my mind was that.
"My grandpa is acting strange and I have never for once seen my grandpa eating fish and neither does he buy fish."
"My grandpa for once never liked fish neither did I . But why did he send me today? I don't understand..."
"Maybe he was eating fish when I was in boarding school".
