( THIRD PERSON POV : )waking up, you intertwined the fingers of both your hands together and stretched them right over your head. today, you would be going back to the armed detectives agency once again. kunikida stormed in your space and yelled at you that you need to get ready for the day. according to you, he has seemed on edge lately.
did he find something out about you that he didn't like? did dazai tell him something regarding your past? you couldn't quite answer that question in your head since you needed to get going. you put an outfit of your choice on and headed out the door with kunikida.
before you could get to work on any new projects, you decided it was best to talk to yosano. kunikida had been extremely quiet on the walk there and you were afraid that something had happened to him.
yosano took you into another room and spilled the details of yesterdays meeting. you connected the dots then realized that kunikida just held a tiny grudge against you for maybe not having an official exam, him being someone who went by the book and all. though, the thing that bothered you the most was what yosano told you what dazai said.
he apparently acted as if you were an innocent mafia member, someone like odasaku, even though he knew exactly of your position there. because of this, everyone else assumed you never contributed to any heinous crimes except for maybe ranpo. who you were wondering why he was keeping his mouth shut. maybe dazai was behind that too.
also he seemed especially desperate to get you to work at this place.
suddenly, you didn't have much time to think logically as guilt was overcoming you. you noticed you were being praised for letting someone else live which shouldn't only be the bare minimum but so much more. you only did so because your ability was forbidden or you wanted to make sure to get the right target.
'one of those' you thought before snapping yourself out of a trance, realizing one last thing.
wait.. im actually feeling bad for my past actions, does that mean my mind recognizes that killing was a regrettable action after all? if the mafia was here, they would probably tell me that im spending too much time with the agency.
however, when you walked into the infirmary and saw a familiar fourteen year old girl, your thoughts were forced to be put on hold.
oh shoot.
she knows me.
you looked over to the 14 year old with an open mouth, expressing your surprise. suddenly, your roommate cleared his throat to speak. " why do you look so surprised?" kunikida said to you.
you scratched your head, trying to create an excuse. " i guess im still getting used to things since i wasn't expecting some hurt person to be on the infirmary beds. it's not something you see everyday, even if you have dealt with it a lot here as a worker."
kunikida didn't have a crystal ball that could tell what the truth really was so he just nodded his head for now. your focus was then targeted back to the girl you recognized as kyouka. you never agreed with akutagawa's training with her and would've tried to get in between it if it wasn't for you being in a bad headspace back then.
nonetheless, the girl looked up to you as you used to be a good example of a fairly strong mafioso just like kōyō and the others. one that had control but can still get things done, one that didn't need a stupid phone.
you never had time to give kyouka any attention as you were again, not in the most comfortable situation. if she resented you due to some inferiority complex or something, this could mean trouble. you didn't really know her personality all too well, so it was a tough call. you at least hoped that kyouka didn't follow in akutagawa's footsteps with how he acted to the person he looked up to.
you were quite surprised to hear not another whisper fall from the girl's mouth. not even a shocked gasp upon seeing your face. then, kunikida and his co-workers left the room to leave kyouka to rest. however, you stayed put. you thought this was the perfect opportunity to talk to her with the safety of nobody eavesdropping.
" it's not like i encouraged akutagawa to treat you the way he did but even though i was dealing with my own mental health, i could've pushed that aside and gotten you out of all that abuse. so why didn't you tell on me? i was a bystander, at the end of the day i technically chose to ignore what was going on. don't you want revenge on me? an adult that didn't take responsibility to step in?"
" im being treated like a monster myself for the things i did in the past, so why would i want that for anyone else? i don't blame you for struggling mentally, and you weren't the one that put that bomb on me." kyouka told you, looking into your eyes.
" are you sure? you're a strong soul to be dealing with all of this. i'd like to get to talk with you more." you said, swinging your legs on the infirmary bed that you were sitting on.
A/N: SORRY IF THIS WAS A BORING CHAPTER, I WAS MORE SO TRYING TO WORK ON Y/N'S CONNECTION WITH KYOUKA. I PROMISE AKU WILL POP UP SOON THOUGH.
