It was a Sunday afternoon, and I was cuddling in bed with my fiancé Jacob watching one of our favorite shows, Power, when Denise called my phone upset over Damon, completely ruining our vibe.
This was nothing new. She would always call me just to vent about Damon and his fuckery. Frankly, I was tired of it but I loved my friend and wanted to be there for her, so no matter how many times she called me over Damon I always answered and tried my best to make her feel better.
"Bae, don't answer that shit. Come on, we chilling...call your girl back later", Jacob pleaded, clearly annoyed over Denise always blowing up my phone over Damon.
"She's my friend Jacob, I have to. It'll only be a minute baby, I promise". I smiled and gave him a peck on the lips.
I answered the phone as I made my way outside to our balcony because I knew Jacob was not trying to hear our conversation.
When I answered my phone, I was on three way with Denise and my other best friend Phylicia.
The 3 of us were like sisters. We grew up together, went to the same public schools and even attended the same college university together. We were all intelligent women with successful careers. I was a fashion designer who owned several clothing stores in the city, Phylicia was a popular and well known makeup artist who was working on having her own makeup line, and Denise was a successful real estate agent who sold extravagant homes to people with white collar money. We've been through a lot of ups and downs as bestfriends, but we always had each other's back and helped each other out. I loved both of them to death and it always made me upset whenever they were depressed or hurt.
"I'm so tired of this shit. I know he has a bitch in my house", Denise cried.
Denise was all the way in Jamaica visiting relatives. She couldn't even enjoy her time in Jamaica because she was worrying about her problems in America, which was Damon and his infidelity.
Phylicia sighed in annoyance.
"Denise I keep telling you to leave this man alone. He's a jackass. You deserve better. Damn girl do you not see that? You are far too beautiful to be putting up with this and yet you continue to sit here and let this clown ass nigga play you like a fool. You're being stupid!", Phylicia said, frustrated with Denise's weakness over Damon.
"Phylicia try to be a bit more sympathetic. She loves him. It's not easy for her to just pick up and throw her relationship away", I said, defending Denise.
Denise firt met Damon when he met up with her to buy a condo on south beach. According to her, it was love at first sight. Damon was incredibly handsome. She couldn't keep her eyes off of him and he couldn't his' off of her either, especially her body. His eyes roamed all over her curves as she gave him the tour of the condo. When it was time to discuss whether he would buy it he agreed to purchase it if Denise agreed to go out with him on a date. She agreed, he bought the expensive ass condo and the rest was history, they've been together ever since.
Damon had always been a playboy but like a lot of women, Denise thought she could change him and transform him into this faithful, committed man but like K. Michelle once said, you can't raise a man and make him grow up. It's been 2 years that they've been in a relationship, and he's still the same playboy he was before he met Denise.
His infidelity came with all types of drama. Women would come to Denise's job, women played on her phone, women approached her on the street, one woman even broke into her home and threatened her with a knife and she had to get a restraining order on the bitch.
Hoes truly didn't have any shame when it came to men of Damon's caliber; men who were overly attractive, highly successful and earned a lot of money. Denise couldn't go anywhere without women eyeing her man or trying to get his attention as if she wasn't even there. She's even dealt with insecurities because she had so much competition with different types of women.
