Emily's POV
School starts exactly in a week. I try not to think about it because then I dwell on it, sending myself down a spiral. I pull out my journal which I haven't looked at in some time. I flip straight to the page where I wrote my goals for this year.
2023 Goals
● Make a friend
● Cut my hair
○ Nose piercing
● Have my first REAL kiss
○ Have my first boyfriend
● Go to a party?
○ Drink? Get drunk...
● Smoke weed...
○ Graduate
○ be happy
○ find a passionI cross off make a friend because I've made two; Max and Robin. I guess you can count Eddie too. I had my first real kiss so I cross that one off too. Too bad it didn't lead to having a boyfriend. I went to party and it was absolutely ass but it still counts. I smoked weed with Eddie, it wasn't life changing. I'd do it again if it meant I could spend time with Eddie. I reread the list a few times before shutting my journal and shoving it back under my bed. I need to complete more before school starts.
Eddie texted me this morning. I haven't responded yet. After our last encounter I'm kinda embarrassed. I was so emotional that day. When I got home it all made since I stared my period, which would explain why I was being such a bitch.
Eddie: what're you doing today
Nothing. That's what I'm doing todays. Moms been very suspicious of me ever since I came home from Robin's with Eddie. She keeps asking me if Eddie and I are dating. I tell her no and she'll ask if I'm trying to. I can't bring my self to lie about that so I usually change the subject or walk away from her.
Emily: nothing why
Eddie: I dunno maybe you wanna come over
Emily: maybe I do
Eddie: maybe now ?
Emily: I can try but v my mom is all up my ass since I came home with you
Eddie: im sorry ):
Emily: it's okay lol I'll let you know soon
I sigh out loud, mentally preparing myself for this conversation with my mom. I throw my phone on my bed and head down stairs, the sound of TV let's me know she's in the living room.
"Hey mom," I startle her.
"Hey sweetie," she smiles once she regains her composure.
"Can I go to Max's house tonight?" I smile my most sincere smile trying to persuade her.
"Of course. Are you gonna spend the night again?" She asks pausing the TV.
"Yeah. Just super nervous for school to start, want to go hang out with her and calm my nerves."
"That's fine sweetie, I completely understand."
"Can we leave in like an hour? When she'll be home."
"Yeah, just come get me whenever." She smiles and goes back to watching TV.
I run back upstairs, lay in bed and grab my phone to start texting Eddie.
Emily: I'll be there in a hour
Eddie: perfect
I quickly text Max so she's aware of what's happening. As I'm responding to her Eddie double texts me.
Eddie: what do you want to do
Emily: maybe get drunk wouldn't want to be getting drunk when school starts I wanna cross another thing off my list
Eddie: are you sure?
Emily: yeah
Eddie: so safe to assume your spending the night again? hmm
Emily: maybe but max said she'll keep her window unlocked so I can sneak in late if needed
Eddie: I'll go buy some beer rn
Emily: whatever you gave me at that party was actually disgusting
Eddie: okay so I'll go buy something else
Emily: something yummy if u need cash I can help
Eddie: don't worry about it princess
I audibly gasp when I read the word princess. It's the second time he's called me that. It does something to me I can't explain.

Mom drops me off at Max's house only this time she doesn't drive off immediately. I have no choice but to actually knock on her front door, takes a few moments but eventually Max answers.
"I thought you were - " Max says and I cut her off.
"I think she's on to me or something." I let my self in her house and shut the door behind me.
"How would she know?" Max asks.
"I don't know usually she drives off immediately this time she sat there and watched me."
"Why would she do that?" I tell Max everything that happened at Robins house. I tell her how my mom was upset that she dropped me off at Robins and then I get a ride home from Eddie, of all people. How since she's been constantly asking me if Eddie and I were a thing. "So now you think she's suspicious of you?"
"Yeah."
"I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt your mom is that clever." Max laughs.
"Your probably right." Max goes to the window and looks out for my moms car.
"The coast is clear."
"Thank you, I really do appreciate you."
"No problem. Don't forget I'll leave my window unlocked so you can sneak in whenever you want to tonight. It's easy I do it all the time." She laughs
-
"What is this?" I ask when Eddie hands me a can.
"I dunno I see all the girls at parties drinking them. They're mixed with lemonade. Thought you might like it." He says, taking a sip from his own drink. I open the can and take a drink.
"This has alcohol in it?" I ask confused cause it tastes like lemonade, nothing like the last drink Eddie gave me.
"Yeah five percent. You'd have to drink a lot to get super wasted. Who knows tho, your tiny and you've never drank before so your tolerance is probably low as fuck." He laughs, I shake my head.
"That's dangerous."
"Yup." He smiles, finishing his first can.
"You drank that whole thing like it was nothing, how?" I ask.
"I've built my tolerance up over the years, that's nothing to me."
