dawn city, new jersey, does not live up to its name. in fact, the city carries a rather dark and mysterious aesthetic, constantly raining and covered in clouds.
reminiscent of the big apple in new york, dawn city was built along the banks of large rivers, allowing it to be an ever-growing trade center in its past. that trade has grown into a criminal empire that has yet to dwindle, using access to the river to trade drugs, guns, and other illegal substances and equipment.
the skyline of the city is sprinkled with new elaborate skyscrapers, but most of the buildings are historic and have been there since the twentieth century.
recreation is important in dawn city. many different cultures have left its mark on the city's people, but also on its identity. what historically was few cultures grew into a large melting pot due to the city's access to the river. the multicultural identity has left its mark with hundreds of bars, food carts, and ethnic restaurants that all offer a plethora of culinary choices.
there aren't many recreational activities within the city that are meant for children or the faint-hearted. parks have been common locations for gang activity, and drugs deals happen in every alleyway and beneath every streetlight. instead, there are plenty of nightclubs, and many of them are run by criminal overlords that use bars and clubs as legit fronts to keep the dawn city police department from finding out what they are really up to.
there is no real law in dawn city; it's run by criminals, and it's up to the few heroes there to stop it.
