[ concept art for christine katz ]
christine katz is the daughter of known parents in ardor city, new mexico. she grew up in the foster care system, but was eventually adopted by frida katz, a mexican-american woman whose family had come over into new mexico years ago.
she lived a humble life with her single mother. they lived in the suburbs of ardor city, and they made ends meet with christine working in high school at a diner and frida working as a housekeeper during the daytime. they lived a quaint, quiet life in the perfect white-picket fence neighbourhood. nothing bad ever happened.
until it was found out that their neighbours had a meth lab in their basement.
frida and christine's home was caught in a fire as the meth lab exploded, and they barely made it out alive. they escaped to downtown ardor city, where they found a shitty little apartment and started continuing to make their living—but it became increasingly difficult as violence in dawn city got worse.
christine wanted to make a difference. she graduated from university of new mexico, ardor city with a degree in journalism and minors in engineering and psychology. she became an investigative journalist, finding herself at every crime scene. it was how she met anthony scott, aka bluejay, and how they became a couple.
when she figured out anthony scott's secret, she joined him in the vigilante career as batwoman, prancing around ardor city with technologically advanced attire that made her hard to defeat. she became a staple of ardor even after anthony's falling out with the public—which she eventually broke up with him after, though it was hard to avoid him with them both being heroes in the same city.
while working as batwoman, christine found herself injured after being thrown off of a rooftop by one of her enemies, and she was not able to break her fall with any of her technological accessories. she was left paralysed for a year, taking her out of the hero scene and limiting her to a desk job. however, due to groundbreaking medical treatment and experimental studies, christine was given a neural implant and was able to return to her normal life of fighting crime; however, if the implant is damaged or malfunctions, she could suffer brain damage and would become paralysed again.
overuse of the neural implant has led it to be strained, resulting in her mobility from day to day. christine still finds herself working on the city's rooftops at night in a glorious uniform that she calls the "bat-suit," but her movement is severely limited. it can range from her being unable to move or operating at peak batwoman levels. still, she makes die with what she can do, and she vowed to herself that she would never stopped fighting as long as she was still alive.
