Tony and Hela were making up plans and throwing ideas in the air in his mansion. It wasn't long after the fight itself that they started combining their evil intentions against Thor and Loki. They really did get along, that common rage they both have against the same people brought them close faster than they normally would.
And that's why Rhodey and Happy were more than shocked to see their best friend extremely calm and cozy after what he just did to S.H.I.E.L.D. and it's agents generally. They literally barged in his mansion after hearing about the events, expecting to see him in an awful condition.
"Tony, what the hell is going on?" an angry Rhodey asks directly at him, but keeping his distance at the same time.
Tony turns around to face him, knowing that looking them both in the eyes will make him feel remorse and guilt. They're the only people left that he cares about and is afraid of hurting.
"Is it all true? Did you do what they say you did?" Happy's voice is shaking.
"I did, I'm sorry" Tony finds the courage to finally tell them the truth.
"You're sorry? You killed them...You killed Natasha!" Happy yells and runs towards Tony.
"I know, I really didn't want to" Tony stays still even though Happy reaches him within seconds and pushes him back.
"What has gotten to you? You destroyed everything" Rhodey's disappointment is breaking Tony in pieces.
"I just want them all to pay for what happened to Pepper. I wasn't going to hurt Nat or S.H.I.E.L.D, they were the ones coming after me" he tries to express his thoughts.
"You think Pepper would want this? That she would want you to act like this?" Tony's eyes get teary after Rhodey's words.
"No, she wouldn't. But she's not here anymore to tell me that or stop me from doing more, is she?" he asks in pain.
"And that gives you the right to act the way you did? You've lost your mind, Tony" Happy shakes in anger.
"This is all that keeps me sane. I can't live without her" his heart is ready to burst.
"You're far from sane, Tony. Let us help you and turn you in. No more people have to get hurt because of this" Rhodey tries to talk some sense into Tony.
"You need some help, buddy. Do the right thing now before the situation gets even worse" Happy rests his hand on Tony's shoulder.
Tony feels all the emotions overcoming him. He starts crying and feeling more guilty than he ever has before. He stretches his arms and shares a hug with his two best friends, even though they don't feel entirely safe and comfortable in this situation.
"Will you come with us?" Rhodey asks quietly, looking in Tony's regretful eyes deeply.
Tony doesn't reply yet. His brain is struggling to make a decision. His work is not done yet, but he's really turning into his worst self day after day. He's hurt people he cares about and he's even planning on doing more harm. Happy and Rhodey are patiently waiting for him to answer, praying that it'll be a yes.
"Oh, for f*ck's sake" Hela complaints and impatiently uses her energy blasts towards the three of them.
She only hits Rhodey and Happy, causing them to pull apart from Tony. The amount of shock that hit them makes them both fall down and groan for a while in pain.
"What the f*ck did you just do?" Tony aggressively asks her, suiting up in less than 3 seconds.
"Relax, I wasn't going to kill them. I just wanted this awkward situation to be over" she replies calmly.
Tony takes another look at his two friends and once he makes sure they're both fine, he turns to look at Hela again. His suit's eyes light up and he quickly flies towards her, hitting her with his fist.
"I do not want to fight you, Stark. We're allies" she remains calm.
"You attacked my friends" he uses his repulsors and blasts at her over and over.
"If I really wanted to hurt them they'd be hurt, trust me" she takes his hits but also dodges a few of them, causing some stuff around the house to be destroyed.
"Do you expect a thank you for that?" he asks, still angry.
"No" she replies and starts getting angry herself when she sees he's not stopping.
"Good, because you're not getting one" he takes the perfect position and loads his arc reactor completely, blasting at her with his whole power.
Hela yells when all that energy runs all over her body. It lasts more than a few seconds, really draining some of her strength and endurance. She didn't know a human suit could weaken her as much as it's doing at the moment.
When she finally manages to focus and collect more of her power, she screams and breaks herself free. Right after, she raises her arms and aims at Tony, using a powerful blast that hits him and makes him the one screaming in pain now.
"That's enough!" Rhodey screams, feeling terrified of what's happening to Tony.
"I wasn't planning on keep going" Hela replies and stops the attack.
Tony's suit looks damaged and he opens the mask to take deep breaths in order to calm down. He drops on the floor and rests against a wall, nose bleeding and body sweating a lot. Rhodey and Happy run to him to make sure he's fine and Tony reassured them that he's okay.
"Hurt them again and you're next on the list, got it?" Tony stands up and threatens her.
"Sure" she replies and they nod at each other, showing that the bad blood is behind them.
"What kind of list?" Happy asks, frightened.
"It's nothing" Tony replies but it's too late.
Both his friends know that he's talking about a hit list. Any sign of goodness he was almost showing by now is long gone in their eyes. Their friend has changed into something much different, even if he knows that it's wrong.
"I really hope you pull yourself together and make a right decision. It's late but it's not too late to do the right thing" Rhodey tells him, slowly walking away.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry" Tony repeats himself.
"We'll be here if you change your mind" Happy says with a broken voice and an even broken heart.
They both walk away, looking like a mess. That's not their friend anymore. He looks like their friend, talks like their friend, has glimpses of his good old self, but too much is changed about him. They tried their best but there's clearly nothing they can do to make him return to the friend they loved and would do anything for. Now they can only wait and hope he has a change of mind on his own.
Tony looks at them with tears in his eyes as they leave him behind. He knows how he should act, he knows what he's done is wrong, but his personal desire for revenge can't let him think straight. He thinks of himself and himself only. That's why he wipes the tears off his face and looks back at Hela.
"I believe you should fix that suit of yours before we take you to battle with my brothers" she comments on the bad state of his suit.
"Don't worry, I have a better idea" he smirks deviously.
Hela creases her eyebrows in confusion as he disappears for a couple of minutes. That confusion turns into a big smirk and a huge wave of confidence when he comes back, wearing a new, much different suit.
"Like it?" he asks.
It's completely different than his previous ones, just like the person inside it. A change of character followed by a change of appearance. The new suit is no longer red and gold, but it's white with black and blue details instead. It looks even more powerful and dangerous than the other ones. It looks superior.
"I love it" she answers and they both smile before going back to finish the last of their plans.
