It's been a few days since Tony asked JARVIS to locate Bucky. He hasn't left the lab ever since. All he has in mind is what he's going to do to him once he finds him. And these thoughts are keeping him from falling apart. Otherwise, his mind will go back to the worst thoughts about himself and how he ruined everything in his life.
"Sir, I have located Bucky Barnes" the A.I. says.
"Finally, how far?" Tony asks.
"Around 7 hours" is the answer.
"Is the suit updated?"
"Everything will be ready tomorrow, sir" Tony hears the words and smiles to himself.
"Great" he nods and finishes his work on another idea.
He uses his screwdriver and once he's done fixing one last detail he brings it in his mouth and bites it. He looks at his improved suit glove in front of him and smiles proudly.
"Let's go kick his a*s" he speaks.
Tony is prepared for battle, he has been for a while. The only thing keeping him from doing that was Pepper. But she's not here anymore, is she? All he feels is rage and anger. He wants to express all that and what better way than to take down the man that killed his parents?
He regrets holding back in that battle and not shooting him with his missiles or with his repulsors directly. One hit. That's all he needs to take revenge. Bucky's just a man after all, he can't survive one of his direct hits.
After a few days of watching Buky's hiding place closely, Tony decided it was finally time to attack. He's known his habits, he's not afraid of going there to face him.
"Ready when you are, sir" JARVIS says.
"Show me the way" Tony replies and appealingly gets in the suit within seconds.
The helmet closes and soon there are a few lights turning on and the screen in front of him is full of the directions he will need for the flight. Tony scans them carefully to get ready and starts his way with determination.
JARVIS didn't calculate Tony's extreme will and dedication to find Bucky. And that's exactly why the A.I. couldn't guess that Tony would eventually make the trip in under 6 hours.
Tony didn't want to lose a second before facing Bucky. That's why he made himself comfortable in a hotel, only to enjoy some rest during the time JARVIS was watching Bucky and his latest moves.
"It appears that Mr. Barnes isn't alone" JARVIS comes to an observation.
"Rogers?" Tony asks, not sure if he's hoping for Steve to be here too or not.
"No, it's Sam Wilson" is the answer.
"Sam? What's he doing here?" Tony asks rhetorically.
"Keep a close eye on them, I'm delaying this until we have a better understanding of what's going on" Tony orders.
"On it, sir" JARVIS changes his methods quickly.
"Should I call room service? You haven't eaten anything in the last 24hours" JARVIS sounds concerned, if that's even possible.
"Good idea, you know my order. Add scotch, a bottle of it" Tony agrees.
"Is this truly the best idea? You're preparing for a battle" the A.I. questions.
"I'm off duty for tonight, J. Just send my order before I change my mind on a second bottle of it" Tony says sternly.
"It's done, sir" JARVIS confirms after a few seconds and Tony nods.
Indeed, a while later the things Tony requested were in his room. He finally had something to eat and after he finished the whole bottle alone, he allowed himself to get some sleep. JARVIS was still looking at the place Bucky is hiding anyway, and tomorrow was the day he'll start making his plan.
After he woke up, Tony took an aspirin to get rid of the hangover. Hangovers were something he had to deal with almost daily, but lately his life was different. He was enjoying his peaceful days with Pepper. Now, though, drinking is one of his best coping mechanisms.
"JARVIS, updates" he asks.
"Seems like Mr. Barnes and Mr. Wilson aren't on to something. I don't detect any unusual activities from them" the A.I. replies.
"Great, they won't see us coming" Tony mumbles.
After close investigation for the next hours, JARVIS was able to confirm there were no changes in Bucky's everyday activities. That gave Tony all the confidence he needed to suit up and start his way there immediately.
A few minutes later he arrives at the apartment and sneaks in quietly. After scanning the room ahead of him and finding out no one is in, he gets inside and looks around. It's a small apartment, even smaller for Tony's standards, messy and quiet.
He looks around to try to understand what's Bucky's goal here. Is he trying to start over? Is he just hiding? Is he making any plans on his own in secret? He can't know for sure, but there are definitely some hidden weapons around the place, he saw them during his scan.
"You have company, sir" Tony hears JARVIS and immediately gets in position.
Tony waits for a few seconds in hiding, trying to overhear what's going on. There are definitely two voices, Sam and Bucky.
"It'll be just as good as the old one, it looks promising already" Sam says.
"Just as good? It'll be better" Bucky laughs.
"We'll see about that" Sam teases him.
"It's lighter, more flexible" Bucky moves it around in the air, showing off some moves.
"So is my new equipment" Sam answers proudly.
"Can I get you anything?" Bucky changes the subject.
"Just a glass of water" Sam replies and takes a seat on the couch.
"I could use a drink" Tony suddenly appears behind the wall where he was hiding.
Both Sam and Bucky jump and get in defense positions. They didn't expect anyone to be in here, especially not Tony Stark.
"What are you doing here? How did you get in?" Bucky asks, clearly shocked.
"I came back to see you, of course. We have some unfinished business" Tony replies casually.
"I'm sorry, Tony. I thought we could leave this behind us" Bucky says quietly.
"I tried to do that" Tony takes a few steps closer to them.
"Why don't you get out of the suit so we can talk about this?" Sam speaks.
"There's no "we" here, Sam. I'll give you the chance to leave when it's still early" Tony replies.
"There's no way I'm leaving you two here" he declines.
"Then I guess you better suit up" Tony suggests.
"You didn't even have to ask" Sam replies.
The next few seconds are mostly silent. All three of them getting in position to fight, their suits and bodies ready for battle and their looks all serious and dangerous.
