Devin and I have been inseparable, trying to make up for lost time, I suppose. He's been anxious though... waiting for those DNA test results. The testing center called to say they had a huge backlog, so there was going to be a delay of at least another week. Lauren's mom calls a lot to check on him, which I think is really sweet. Lauren is going through intense therapy but still won't talk to anyone about Ethan, so the test is the only way we'll know for sure.

We are relaxing in bed when Devin asks what my thoughts are if the test proves that he is Ethan's father. I'm lying on his chest while he slides his hands up and down my back.

"Nic, you are in my life to stay, so it's important to me that you tell me how you feel. What if Ethan is mine?"

Hearing those words send warm tingles down to my toes. I know he's already told me that I was it for him but those words speak volumes about his commitment.

"If you are Ethan's father, I think you need to pursue some type of legal custody arrangement, so he spends more time with you. These are formative years, so he needs to see you more than just a few weeks at a time. Maybe he comes here every other month until he starts school or something like that."

He looks down at me and asks, "I was thinking of heading out there in a few weeks. Would you go with me? I really want Ethan to meet you."

Well, that takes me a little off guard, and I'm not sure I'm ready, so I give him the best response I can for the moment. "Let's just wait for the test results first and then go from there, ok?"

Nodding in agreement, his hands roam a little further down my body, and he pulls me to sit on top.

His hips circle, pressing his already hardening cock against me, telling me exactly what he wants.

Devin pulls me towards his mouth to suck on my nipples while his hands rub over my ass. "I can think of a few things to do while we're waiting for those results."

My laughter soon turns to moans as moisture starts to pool in between my legs.

Exactly one week later, I'm in the office working on a client brief, and Ashley buzzes the office phone line.

"Nicole, Devin's on line one."

"Hi baby, how are—," he doesn't let me finish.

"The results came in, baby. I need you." I'm packing up my desk before he can finish.

Pulling up to Devin's condo, I rush to get inside to see what's going on. My key is almost in the lock when the door opens with a whoosh, like he is standing there waiting for me. Worry is etched across his beautiful face.

There's an intense need inside of me to protect him. Pulling him into a tight hug, I rub my hands soothingly up and down his back and into his hair. Burying his face into my neck, Devin takes several deep breathes, like he depends on me to help him breathe, like doing this will calm his soul. He doesn't say anything.

I pull away and lead him to the sofa. There's an envelope on the coffee table addressed to him but I'm almost afraid to ask. That brown envelope holds his future, hopefully, our future. Good or bad, we will get through this...together.

"Do you want me to open it?"

He doesn't say anything, only nods his head. Nervous energy runs though me when I reach for it, and I take a deep breath. Devin sits there with his eyes closed and his leg bouncing repeatedly. I grab his hand while I scan the paper for conclusive information. And then I see it...

"The probability of paternity is 0%." Oh, my God!

His face is devoid of emotion as he stares at the paper. He takes a deep breath before speaking in a voice that is barely above a whisper. "Fuck."

Sighing together, he looks at me with a sad smile. "Well, there we have it, baby. Ethan is not my kid."

"I'm so sorry, Devin." He leans into me and places his head on my shoulder. "What do you need me to do, baby?" I hurt for him so much, I'm almost at a loss as to what to do, but I will be strong for him.

"Can we just chill for a bit?"

"Of course, whatever you need."

Devin stands and walks us into his bedroom, but he just stands there looking around his room, like he's lost. So, I take over, I undress him down to this boxer briefs and have him get into bed.

"Do you want something? Water?"

He looks at me with a small, sad smile, shaking his head no. "Just you, baby; please lay with me." I can't imagine the hurt he's feeling right now.

I undress and slip under the covers with him and wrap him up in as much support and love as I can. Rubbing my hands on his back, Devin closes his eyes. His breathing starts to even out, and I know he's finally asleep. As I listen to him breathe, I hold him wondering how to help soothe his pain. Quietly I whisper, "I promise we'll get through this," and continue to rub his back as I drift off.
