I observe Logan pulling into the parking lot, closely followed by Brie and Aunt Lia. As we unload the truck, we arrange everything properly for Aunt Lia. In a few days, Brie's grams will arrive. I think it's a terrific idea that they've decided to convert my old room into a guest room.
Standing in our old apartment, I think back on everything the four of us have been through. I wouldn't trade it for anything, despite the fact that it was frightening and heartbreaking. It was via this interaction that I met Clay.
"I think that's the lost box." I turn to Aunt Lia.
"Thank you." She smiles and pulls Brie and I into a hug.
Now officially staying in the apartment Brie and I shared is Aunt Lia. The guys assemble the last few items we need and take them to the truck.
I enter my former bedroom slowly and smile as I do so. In this place, I began my existence. From Clay to school. These walls contain all of our memories. I walk outside after opening the balcony doors. This is what I'll probably miss the most, I guess. Standing here, I think back on all the good and bad times Clay and I have shared, as well as the cold air and the scenery. We began where I am standing at this moment. The late-night hookups on the side or all the occasions when he would sneak in and give me a rose and a letter he had written. As I think of him, a smile gradually appears on my face. Brie's voice abruptly awakens me from my reverie.
"Can I see it again?" Brie asks excitedly.
I lift my hand and she grabs it, admiring the engagement ring Clay proposed with.
"Honey, I'm happy for you but I want you to be absolutely sure." She says quietly as if Clay is in the next room.
"I'm sure, I've never been more sure of anything. Obviously we aren't getting married anytime soon." I laugh.
"Uh huh." Brie starts to laugh. "That boy would marry you today if he could."
"Yes I would." I turn to see Clay standing at the door and I can't help but blush. In all honesty I would marry him right now also.
"Which month would you both want to get married in, if you had to make a decision? You two are complete opposites when it comes to the weather." Logan asks, trying to hold back a chuckle.
"October." We both answer and I can't help but laugh.
"So October it is. We have tons of time to get it all sorted out and you can have a magical wedding." Brie smiles and jumps up and down clapping her hands.
I freeze for a moment,
"This october?"
"Duh."
I roll my eyes and say,
"Well I kind of wanted to finish school first." I turn to Clay. "No offence."
"None taken." He smiles.
"Oh come on, it's not like you need to start popping out babies right away."
"Brie!" I shout, this is getting too much.
I feel overwhelmed as the experience becomes more intense. Why am I unable to deal with one problem at a time?
"Okay this is a conversation between Clay and I, so we are going to go. Aunt Lia I love you and I will be by soon!" I hug her goodbye and give Brie the death stare.
Grabbing Clay's hand, I walk out. We get in the car and he puts my hand in his. He kisses my palm and says,
"Rikers point?"
As he drives, I smile. I lean against his shoulder as he puts the car in park once we have arrived at our destination. As he kisses my hair, he embraces me with his arm.
