"I'm not sure this is so smart..." Mac muttered as the black, sleek car pulled up to the venue, an imposing building with grand, illuminated columns and a red carpet leading up to the entrance. The driver opened the door, and they stepped out, greeted by the cool evening air and the hum of conversation from the other guests mingling outside.
Mac felt a surge of regret, and the auction hadn't even started. What was she thinking, bringing Jackson and Marley here? The stolen necklace was sure to be a centerpiece, and she couldn't know what to do if her friends found out the truth.
"I don't understand what you're so afraid of," Marley said, crossing her arms. She had told Mac she wanted her to go with her, but would go see Massimo either way, and there was no way Mac would let her best friend stay here alone.
"You're right. Let's go to this auction," Mac smiled, trying to hide her anxiety. They were escorted inside, where a beautifully decorated hall awaited them. The venue was even more extravagant than the blonde had imagined, with crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and a live orchestra playing softly in the background. The walls were adorned with expensive artworks, and tables were set with fine china and crystal glasses. Waitstaff circulated with trays of champagne and hors d'oeuvres. Mac couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety as she took it all in.
"Wow, this place is incredible," Jackson said, his eyes wide with amazement. Marley nodded enthusiastically, already grabbing a glass of champagne from a passing tray.
They made their way to their assigned table near the front, giving them a perfect view of the auction stage. Mac's heart raced as she scanned the room, spotting familiar faces from the DeCavalcante circle. She noticed Noelle standing by the stage with Madison, looking effortlessly stunning in a tight, black split dress. A soft smile formed on the older girl's lips as they made eye contact, and she slowly made her way to the younger one, ignoring Jackson's ugly glare.
"Hey," Noelle smiled, looking the blonde up and down, gently biting her lower lip, her eyes lingering around the younger girl's chest a bit longer than she intended.
"Hi there," Mac couldn't help but smile back, as if Noelle's smile was contagious. She didn't know whether to go for a kiss or a hug, but Noelle gently grabbed her chin, and pulled her in for a quick, but soft kiss. Mac's body was on fire beneath her touch, and she didn't want the kiss to end. She felt sorry for Jackson, who still stood there, looking around awkwardly.
"I'm going to find Massimo," Marley said, and was quick to find the tall, dark-haired boy.
"I'll, uh, hang with Derek or something," Jackson muttered, clearly uncomfortable. He cleared his throat again, unsure why Mac had invited him.
"You look stunning," Noelle complimented Mac, who was wearing a champagne-colored gown with a split that showed off her cleavage, and her hair styled in loose curls, making her look like a princess.
"Thank you," Mac said shyly. "You look hot"
