Four months later...

Since the birth of wolvens, the blue moon has been our doorway to our true selves. It is a night where the imprisoned wolf is finally set free and we are completed.
Because what is a wolven without a wolf?
For me, that answer is easy.
A wolven without a wolf is a fighter. A quick learner. A good leader. And most importantly, they are strong. I would argue that in many ways, not having a wolf taught me more about myself. Because I had to trust my own instincts and rely on my own knowledge more than those who had their wolf to guide them.
My wolf completed me but I was never weak without her. We are two halves of one very powerful warrior. But tonight is about crowning me and Torben, and then setting my wolf free. And she has been trapped for too long. She has waited for this long enough.
As sunset begins, I can already see the blue moon in the distant horizon out of the open window. The night air feels like it's charged with divine magic. The moon goddess looks down at us and I can feel her blessing. My wolf purrs her response to the goddess' approval.
"You look beautiful."
My eyes meet the cobalt blues of my mothers as she looks at me from the open doorway. Her smile is almost bittersweet. Tonight she gets to watch me get everything I've ever wanted but that means I'll leave home and not see her as much.
My mother looks as beautiful as always, wearing a red dress. The colour I requested for tonight.
"In fact," she walks toward me and then takes both my hands into hers, "you look like a queen."
That makes me smile. "I doubt many queens were crowned in a dress this short." I look down at my dress. It's made of a white delicate material that flows to my knees. Moons and stars have been embroidered all over the material. It's simple yet stunning and the neckline sits low enough for the blue glow of my necklace to be seen.
My mother laughs, "Yes, well most queens didn't have to worry about shifting afterwards."
"Will it hurt?" My eyes seek the horizon again. The sun is just a sliver in the distance and darkness is beginning to creep in, bringing the blue moon with it.
"It can be, but the pain is nothing when compared to how good it will feel to have your wolf free."
"Your mother's right." Ezlyn enters the room, wearing a similar red to my mother but she's opted for a lighter shade. She has earrings to match and her hairs been plaited behind her back.
I take comfort in that and fiddle with my necklace, imagining my wolf running free through my territory. Mine and Torben's.
My mother asks Ezlyn, "Did you bring it?"
Ezlyn grins while I watch them both with a raised brow.
