COLBY STARED AT the four boys trudging to their bikes, chained to the rack. He'd heard the whispers just about everywhere— Will Byers was gone. No one had seen him at all during the day, and even as the sun had begun to set on Hawkins, there'd been no news whatsoever.

That was, until, Cassie came home with a bag of flashlights. They'd never owned flashlights. When the power went out, the kids sat in the pitch black. It was fine with Colby, who'd have an excuse to get out of doing Geometry homework.

"What's all this?" Colby questioned, motioning to the bag of items. Even Jayson's door opened, revealing the tired, blurry-eyed boy. He ran a hand through his hair, wrapping his arms around himself to cover the goosebumps forming on his chilled skin. His hair was spiked up; he looked like a rockstar.

"Good evening, Jayson." mocked Colby, leaning up against the counter. "Just woke up?"

"Yeah." grumbled Jayson, gesturing to the flashlights on the table. "The hell is all this?"

"There's a search party for the Will Byers boy." responded Cassie, who didn't bother to look up as she put batteries into the back of each flashlight. "We're going to join in."

"Are you out of your damn mind?" scoffed Jayson, turning to look out the window. "In case you've missed the weather, it's pouring outside."

"I didn't miss it." snapped Cassie, sneering at Jayson, who immediately took a fearful step back. "Put a coat up and get in my car."

"Jesus Christ." huffed Jayson, storming into his room, grabbing an old Hawkins sweatshirt. He grumbled under his breath as his two siblings watched him put it on awkwardly in the doorway.

"I'm game." said Colby, turning back to Cassie. "I feel bad for them. The Byers', I mean. They don't deserve this. Miss Byers is real nice."

"Yeah, she is." nodded Cassie in agreement, pulling her rain jacket over her shoulders. "I always see her at the store. She obviously wasn't there tonight. Come on, Jayson!"

"Shut up, Cassie!"

"He's a good student." said a voice from behind Jim Hopper, who spun around, furrowing his bushy brows together. His hat hung low on his face, yet the man speaking to him was so short that he could still see the entirety of his face without his hat getting in the way.

"What?" said Hopper, leaning towards the man. He pulled his coat tighter around his body as the freezing cold air swept into his lungs.
