Night has fallen down in London. Street lamplighters were finishing their work. In the Strand district, located between Westminster and the City district, Jacob Frye — leaned on the street-lamplight, crossed legs — was observing a hooded-woman vanish in the dark, at the opposite pavement. He was curious about seeing how Victoria, his disciple, was going through in her mission. That's the reason why he has followed her.
While Victoria sees her target coming, she hides immediately in the shadow, created by the light and the arch of the alley — leading to a dead-end. Without knowing it and despite his prudence, the man was dangerously getting closer to being a dead-man. Before joining his meeting-place to get his money for killing and stealing an innocent, the guy stops to walk and looks around him. Victoria is grumbling in her head. She was impatient to kill the man and take the stolen goods to give it back to the owner — a good lady. But finally, the man is following his walk to death. He does better than what she wanted to.
The man turns his back to her and walks backwards to her. Things couldn't be more perfect for the apprentice Assassin. Close enough, Victoria suddenly strikes the man. She blocked him with her forearms — hand covering his mouth to muffle any scream or whine. Immediately, she spread out her hidden blade and hammered it in the jugular vein. The tensing body before being unwinded, the Assassin goes backward and lies down the body in the dark before starting the search-body.
Jacob has seen everything of the assassination. He was impressed by Victoria's performance. He was smiling and nodding his head. He decides to leave the street-lamplight to join the opposite pavement. Once there, he put his arm up and used his rope-launcher. He climbs and joins the roof very quickly. And then, he goes down to the dead-end. He just wanted to annoy her, who was searching for the stolen goods on the dead-body.
She finally found a little bag, in the jacket's inside pocket. It's probably what she was searching for. Very curious and wanting to know what the mysterious goods are, she weighs up the little bag before opening it and takes, with her thumb and index finger the precious goods. She saw she had a beautiful blue gemstone. Her surprise gave rise to questions in her mind. And she couldn't believe she was holding this kind of precious stone. Her, who was a child of misery and a simple waitress at the Seven Bells.
While she was admiring the saphir, Jacob was stealthy approaching her. Victoria's fascination for the stone was a good ally for his little surprise. He was amused by her behavior and what he was doing. His head closed to the apprentice's, not enough to stick out and be in her perspective.
"Don't look at it too much, it will go off."
Victoria suddenly jumps, and is ready to fight. Happily, the impetuous brother has good reflexes and dodged Victoria's hidden-blade.
"For Godsake, Jacob ! Don't do that again ! You scared me !" she grumbled.
Jacob just answers her with a snigger. After few seconds, he puts his hand on Victoria's and tells her:
"That's why you shouldn't let yourself be distracted, little Blackbird."
Victoria stares at the ground with a tiny smile. She feels her cheeks getting warm. She likes when Jacob calls her by this nickname. But to hide her feelings, she looks at him an answers:
"Thank you for the lesson, sir."
Jacob smiles at his turn. He finally declares it's time to give back this precious little blue gemstone to its owner. He starts to walk and Victoria follows him with no words.
