– As soon as the initiates, including Victoria, have completed their training, we will leave for India.

– You know, Evie, I don't want to force you to do anything. We can wait a little longer before we leave.

– I made you a promise, Henry. Besides, I've always wanted to see Amritsar.

– What about your brother?

– That's why I only want to leave when Victoria finishes her training as an Assassin. I know what they're like together. And Jacob will need someone to rely on.

Evie approached her fiancé and kissed him tenderly, as if to end the conversation. Henry savoured the affection of the woman he had loved since the first day he saw her.

**********

The day of Evie and Henry's departure for India had arrived. The Assassins were at the station, in front of the train that was still at a standstill for a few more minutes. After saying goodbye to Jacob and Victoria, as well as some of the Brotherhood allies who were there to say goodbye, Henry got into the car. Clara O'Dea, not without releasing a few tears, separated from Evie and looked at her. Frye sister reassured her that she would write to her often. She shook Abberline's hand with a handshake as firm as their friendship. When it came to Jacob, the sadness was felt. His eyes were downcast, his hands were in his pockets. He was going to miss his sister, even if he wouldn't admit it. His silence and calmness reflected that. And she didn't need words to know it, to understand it. She decided to take him in her arms.

– This time, no fighting to get a hug*...

Jacob could only smile. He put his hands on his sister's back and hugged her. Victoria, who was standing next to them — to him — looked at them tearfully and with a sad smile. She didn't want Evie to go. She cared for her so much. She was like a sister. And knowing that she would be miles away from here tore at her heart.

– Take care of you, brother mine... And make sure London doesn't fall apart.

– I can't promise you anything about London... he could barely answer.

Evie pulled away from her twin, but did not let go of him. She looked at him with pride, a smile on her face. She believed in her brother despite her little joke to cheer him up.

– Father would be proud of you.

The hazel-eyed brunet nodded briefly and pursed his lips before looking at the ground. He was skeptical, but he preferred to believe his sister, because he knew she was proud of him. That was good enough for him. Evie didn't have to hide behind the memory of their father. As soon as she caught Jacob's eye, she smiled wider and let a tear fall down her cheek. He could tell that this goodbye was as difficult for her as it was for him. With a smile and a slight nod, he silently promised her that he would come to see her in Amritsar. This warmed Evie's heart, and she quickly understood the message. Then she turned to the Fryes' friend, who could not hold back her tears. Ever since she had heard that the Frye sister was going to India, she had hoped that this day would never come. Unfortunately, they were all there to wish the two engaged couples a safe journey.

– Victoria...

The latter could not resist the urge to take Evie in her arms. Her departure, although she understood it, was a real heartbreak. But a promise was a promise. And Frye sister was a woman of her word. How could she blame her? The blue-eyed brunette squeezed the other one. She would miss the former waitress. She was so appreciative of her brother's close friend. She comforted her as best she could. But she also had an important request to make.

– Please, Vic... take care of my brother... Whatever happens, I want you to be by his side.

Victoria lifted her face slightly, which was buried in the crook of Evie's shoulder. Her eyes were wide open.

– Promise me, please.

– I'll take care of Jacob as best I can, Evie. I swear.

After this solemn word, she held her twin tightly - without trying to stop her breathing. The intrepid sister felt reassured. Eventually they separated, without letting go of their arms. The four-minute older twin allowed herself to dry a tear that was running down Victoria's cheek.

– You'll be a great Assassin, Vic. I've always believed in you, and I'll always have faith in you.

Touched by these words, the brown-eyed brunette nodded. Evie held her again for a few moments before entering the train to join Henry and their luggage already on board.

Everyone watched as Evie got into her car, alongside Henry. They were all crying, vainly holding back their tears. Only Jacob was not shedding any tears. But his face betrayed his deep sadness. His gaze, though fixed on his sister, was lost in emptiness. Because of her grief, Victoria moved closer to Jacob and took his arm, wrapping her arms around it. The impetuous brother removed his arm from the Fryes' friend's grasp and slung it over her shoulders, holding her close.

The train whistled its departure before slowly moving off. Frederick, Clara and Agnes waved to Henry and Evie, but Jacob and Victoria just watched the locomotive leave the station. They wished them, silently and with heavy hearts, a safe journey. From now on, London would not be the same without them — but especially without Evie.
