[Assassin's Creed Syndicate / Peaky Blinders – 4/5]
As she had planned following her spying, she innocently put in evidence the ring which had the same symbol as the pendant - which she was not wearing. She could see out of the corner of her eye that Arthur had seen the jewel, from the moment she removed the ring in front of him until she placed it on his belongings. She knew immediately that an idea had crossed his mind. His eyes were on the jewel and he had swallowed. She even sensed that he didn't want to do it. She held back a smile at the thought that had just occurred to her: Please, do it. It's all yours until I can get it back. Then, after calling her, he arrived in the ring. At last they began this new sparring session.
Towards the end of the session, Amy pretended to be having difficulty recovering from Arthur's last blow. She pretended that she needed a few minutes before getting up again. She hid the top of her face in the crook of her elbow to be more credible. She complimented him on his performance today, glancing briefly in Arthur's direction, who was already heading for the ring.
– Thank you. I think all those sessions are starting to pay off, he rejoiced, discreetly taking the ring.
He put it in his pocket and acted as if nothing had happened. As usual, he mopped up the sweat and got dressed, just as Amy finally did. He greeted her just as she asked where his ring was. He suggested that it might have fallen off and said that he didn't have time to help her look, talking about a meeting with her brothers. She pretended not to realise that he was the thief and let him go.
Arthur finally arrived at the Peaky Blinders headquarters, where John and Thomas were waiting for him. He held up the ring, announcing that it was the same symbol as Amy's necklace. He threw it in the air towards his youngest son, who caught the strange jewel. He had never seen this symbol before. It was clearly not an A, but the symbol of an organisation. He told his brothers about it. He knew that Ada worked in a library in London. Perhaps she could find something there? He also thought of the Lees and Johnny Dogs. Perhaps they had seen this symbol before and knew what it meant?
– What do we do now? asked John.
His eyes still riveted on the ring he was twirling between his thumb and forefinger, he said he was thinking about what to do.
– And I'm thinking of visiting our friends the Italians. Maybe they know this symbol too. Maybe he's even working with this organisation.
– This is crazy, Tommy! We've killed two of their men, without asking anything of the Peaky Blinders or anyone else. And you want to go and find them and discuss organisation?
– This would be a good opportunity to kill them before they do.
The three brothers were on the verge of conflict when a loud commotion from the entrance interrupted them. They all looked at each other, silently indicating that they weren't expecting anyone. With a jerk of his head to the side, Thomas indicated to John that he should go and have a look. He did so, while the two older brothers glared at each other. The third brother opened the door and discovered Amy.
– I want to speak to Arthur, she demanded angrily. I was told I'd find him here.
Hearing her voice, Arthur and Thomas turned to see where she was coming from. The second looked at the other, who shrugged and reminded him with a look that he had warned her that she would find out very soon.
– Go home, he's not here, John replied coldly.
He tried to close the door but she quickly put her hand on it and pushed.
– He's stolen something from me and I want it back immediately.
Just as John was about to insist that she shouldn't go in, she shoved him against the door and advanced to the headquarters' private office. Without politeness or rudeness, she entered the room and looked at the two men, but especially at the thief.
